1 year ago in reply to: Splash image not showing on some videos
Thank you for your speedy reply, Martin.
I understand what you say, but because there are no protective videos on the site in question, I created a staging version and deleted the bucket from FV Player Hosting.
That seems to have worked, so I intend to do the same on the live site.
I will back it up first – just in case!
Thank you for your help with this.
Andy1 year ago in reply to: WordPress 6.3.2 HLS playback issuesVideos appear to be playing normally now.
1 year ago in reply to: WordPress 6.3.2 HLS playback issuesI disabled the Stream Loader “Speed up” and then cleared the Cloudfront Cache (using the button in “Stream Loader”.
I noticed that the “Speed up” checkbox was then re-checked, so I unchecked it again and saved the changes.
The videos are hosted on Amazon S3 via CloudFront.1 year ago in reply to: WordPress 6.3.2 HLS playback issuesIt appears to be working now, but on my iMac Pro, the videos jump onto the lowest quality setting (when set to Auto).
This gives a bad picture. If you reload the page, it starts on HD again, but jumps to the lowest (SD) setting again.
I will restore this morning’s backup until it’s corrected.
(Our internet speed was 558Mbps this morning).1 year ago in reply to: WordPress 6.3.2 HLS playback issuesThe reason I posted here was because our customers (and ourselves) were unable to watch videos on the Safari browser.
A customer later reported that he was unable to watch via Chrome on his older iPad. When I checked my iPhone 6, I found I couldn’t watch our videos on Chrome or Safari.
Many of our customers are farmers who tend to have older devices – we still sell training DVDs to others.1 year ago in reply to: WordPress 6.3.2 HLS playback issuesAs a last resort, and in the absence of any communication from Foliovision (are you still in business)?
I restored a backup of our website from 14th October (prior to the WordPress 6.3.2 update – and FV Player 7.5.41.7212 update).
Videos are working normally, but we have lost valuable new member information.1 year ago in reply to: WordPress 6.3.2 HLS playback issuesI have since found that the issue doesn’t arise on my 2017 iMac Pro if I view on Chrome or Firefox, but a customer reported that the problem was still there on Chrome, when he used his older iPad (he was able to watch the videos a few days ago).
He was able to watch on a newer iPad but didn’t mention the browser.
Unfortunately, when we switched to Chrome and Firefox, the picture was very bad. Despite the quality setting being Auto, it was stuck on 180p.
I had to refresh the page several times before the picture improved to 1080p (via the Auto setting).
Obviously this is not something we can expect paying customers to do.
The situation is URGENT, and I’m frustrated that we are unable to get any help from Foliovision outside office hours.
Here we are 16.5 hours after my first post, and still no word from you.
We would be willing to pay more if we could get more reliable support…
We have FV Player on another website, where some public videos play fine on Safari, Firefox and Chrome.Hello Martin,
Thank you for your help with this.
After purging the cache on the server (rather than the SiteGround plugin) the problem seems to have gone.
Do you think a different caching plugin would be better for the site with the videos on? (If so, do you have any suggestions)??Best wishes,
Andy1 year ago in reply to: How to Reduce the FV content in User FileJust to clarify…
I exported the wp_usermeta as csv.
I cannot open it properly with Apple Numbers as the spreadsheet has a limit of 1000 columns, but it DID show:
meta_key__fv_wp_flowplayer_saw_59
meta_key__fv_wp_flowplayer_position_180
in the headers (of the spreadsheet).
Andy1 year ago in reply to: How to Reduce the FV content in User FileI copied and pasted what was there, Martin.
When you say they will be MOVED, do you mean they will be removed from wp_usermeta and taken to a new table?
Or will a new table be started and these files will stay where they are?Best wishes,
AndyThank you Martin.
I tried three of our paid videos and they all played with one click.
Then I tried our Preview video which has no restrictions on it (but is on CloudFront – the same as all our other videos) and it needed a second click to play.
https://workingsheepdog.co.uk/online-sheepdog-training-videos-preview-tb/
I purged the SiteGround Cache, but that didn’t help.
Sorry to bring bad news.Best wishes,
Andy1 year ago in reply to: How to Reduce the FV content in User FileMy apologies. I saw a huge number of entries like:
meta_key__fv_wp_flowplayer_saw_59″,”meta_key__fv_wp_flowplayer_position_180″,
And assumed that those other entries were yours, too as they relate to video.
Is there a way to safely delete (or reduce) this information from our User File?
Best wishes,
AndyOh..!
It seems I was too quick to reply.
The issue has reappeared. My apologies for raising false hopes.Best wishes,
AndyYour test video plays OK with Safari on my system…
AndyHello Martin,
Thank you for your reply.
I deactivated Siteground optimiser – both the plugin, and the version on Siteground itself. Sadly it made no difference.
Then I deactivated all the plugins except FV Player – and that made no difference either.
Best wishes,
AndyI should probably have added a link to a typical video…

The videos are on Amazon s3 and cloudfront.
Thanks in anticipation.
Andy2 years ago in reply to: Chapter support for playlists (Beta)Thanks for your prompt response, Martin.
So the chapters (for the video currently playing) appear beneath the playlist…
We’re looking at various options at the moment. Playlists with chapters would seem an obvious contender.
While writing this reply however, I realised it might be a better option for us to use the Transcripts option.
Instead of actual chapters, we’re using the Chapter links as shortcuts to highlights in our training videos, so that viewers can easily watch a particular section again. This means that some of the videos have a lot of chapters. (Some have 30 or more).
I wondered whether it might be possible to present them in a sort of ‘dropdown’ as per Transcripts.
It then occurred to me that having our ‘chapters’ appear as a transcript could be a great solution! I just tried it, and it works very well, except I’d like to have black text on a white background. I’ll see whether I can do that with CSS.
Looking at some of the threads here make me realise what a task you have. So many people must be wanting to customise their video players in so many different ways – it must be a huge challenge! Thanks for your help,
Best wishes,
AndyHello Martin and Mária,
I’m just wondering whether there’s been any progress with fixing this bug?Best wishes,
Andy2 years ago in reply to: Customise the Chapter List below playerHello Mária,
My computer is an iMac Pro running Ventura 13.0. It happens on Chrome, Safari and Firefox. (All three browsers are the latest versions). If you go to the page for the first time and click a chapter link, it works, but if you then refresh the page (after playing the video) and click a different chapter, it starts playing where it left-off last time.
https://workingsheepdog.co.uk/tvYes, it happens on all videos which have chapters.
Best wishes,
Andy2 years ago in reply to: Customise the Chapter List below playerHello again, Mária,
On looking at one of the videos with my old iPhone today, I noticed that it’s not practical to have two columns below the player for all situations, so unless it’s possible to make the columns responsive (one column on phone, and two columns on desktop etc) I think we will have to be satisfied with one column.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience.
Best wishes,
Andy2 years ago in reply to: Customise the Chapter List below playerHello Mária,
Thanks for getting back to me.No – I don’t want to centre the chapters, I want the heading you gave me to be centred across the two columns of chapters (if that’s possible).
You can see one of our posts with chapters below the video on this link:
https://workingsheepdog.co.uk/tvI’ll be changing the wording of the heading (in bold) but I would like it to be centred above the chapters.
Thanks again for your help.
AndyVIOLA!
It’s Rock-Solid now, Martin!Thank you so much for your help with this.
Best wishes,
AndyNo Cloudflare. We use Amazon s3 and CloudFront.
AndySitewide FV player Defaults video size is 1280 x 720.
The page jumps as a result of scrolling. When it was happening before, If I managed to click inside a block, it would stop jumping!
I just looked again, and it was stable, but when I refreshed the page, it began jumping.
Please understand, it’s FAR better since reinstalling the player this morning.
Forget what I said about scrolling to the very bottom of the page. Since I reloaded it, that’s inconsistent (sorry).
AndyMy apologies, Martin…
I was just showing Gill how much better it was – and when I refreshed the editor page, the problem came back. Not as badly as before, but enough to be irritating when you try to click on a block to edit it.
I don’t have to resort to using the Code Editor (as I did when it first happened).
Sometimes the Block Editor page only jumps a little bit, but at other times, it jumps to just below the chapter list beneath the player.
It’s worst when I scroll to the very bottom of the page.
AndyHello Martin,
That’s a vast improvement. It still jumps, but nowhere near enough to disrupt editing.
If I scroll to a position where the video splash image is not visible. When I scroll back to where it is visible again, it looks as though the thumbnail refreshes, and the screen jumps – but nowhere nearly as bad as before. It’s a huge improvement – thank you!
AndyI should have added that it still happens if the s2Member plugin is disabled…
AndyThe problem still happens when I create a new player.
It looks as though the video in the FV Player Gutenberg block refreshes – and the whole page jumps.
When it’s at its worst, you can’t even click inside a block to edit it.
I can upload a screen recording of it happening if you’d like to see it..?
AndyNaaa…
At my wits’ end with it now. I thought it might be the Custom Fields I use for setting the post display order, but even with that, and all other plugins (apart from FV Player Pro) deactivated it’s still jumping.
Using SiteGround Staging, I even deleted all the s2Member coding on the post which protects the video, and it still jumped.
AndyAlso, I should have mentioned that you need to scroll down to the bottom of the block editor page, and sometimes wait for several seconds before it begins to jump.
AndyHello Martin,
We use only Gutenberg.
Browser window size makes no difference.
I’m doing further tests at the moment because I suspect it only happens on pages where the video content is protected by our s2Member plugin.Best wishes,
Andy2 years ago in reply to: Customise the Chapter List below playerHello Maria,
”’.fv_fp_chapters:before {
content: ‘Video Chapters’;
margin-left: -24px;
}”’
The above code works very well, but since then you gave me some code to make the chapter list two columns.
”’columns: 100px 2;”’
That’s great too, but I’d like to have the text centred over the two columns, rather than inside the first one.
I’ve tried and failed to do this myself, so wondered if you could help please?2 years ago in reply to: Customise the Chapter List below playerThat worked very well, Mária!
Thank you so much.

Andy2 years ago in reply to: VTT Chapters missing…Thanks. That sounds useful.
Andy2 years ago in reply to: VTT Chapters missing…That fixed it Martin!
Thank you so much for your help. I should have thought of creating a new player (kicking myself)!
Now I just have another 72 videos to add chapters to!
Thanks again!
Andy2 years ago in reply to: VTT Chapters missing…Hello Martin,
Thank you for your reply. Please accept my apology. I meant to point out that when chapters are applied, the duration of the video shown on the splash screen is much shorter than the actual duration of the video.
Once you play the video, the correct duration displays (24:31).
Can you see anything in my chapters VTT which would make that so??
Best wishes, Andy2 years ago in reply to: “WATCHED” indicatorHello Martin,
I appreciate your attention to this matter, but sadly, whenever I see the word “developer” my heart sinks…
I had a look at the page, and have to admit, it’s completely beyond my understanding. I wouldn’t even know where to put that code, let alone how to make it work.
I hope many of your more savvy users will find it useful though.
Best wishes,
Andy2 years ago in reply to: “WATCHED” indicatorI look forward to hearing more, Martin – thanks!
2 years ago in reply to: Replace Featured Image with VideoSorry Martin, I should have mentioned the Theme – Twenty Twenty Two.
I hope it’s useful for you.
Best wishes,
Andy2 years ago in reply to: Replace Featured Image with VideoThanks Martin, but I discovered today that it’s available when you use the Featured Video Template!
2 years ago in reply to: “WATCHED” indicatorThanks – it would be really useful!
Andy2 years ago in reply to: HLS Playback StallingIt plays perfectly for me too, at the moment – with a healthy level of buffer. I’ll make a point of asking more questions (such as, about the amount of buffer) in future.
I should say that I have recently suggested to some that they check the HD setting is on Auto (in case they have a slow connection and have set it to something high). In all these cases where I have suggested that, there has been no reply from them…2 years ago in reply to: HLS Playback StallingThanks for the speedy reply, Martin.
The videos are not encrypted.
You can see an example here
I have experienced the issue with Safari, but not iPhone. I have not asked my users what they use.
3 years ago in reply to: How can I delete Subtitle Language tracksThank you Martin. I’m not sure how to go about updating the plugin from your link – and I cannot risk the player failing. There is no great hurry to eliminate the bug, so perhaps it would be better if I wait for the next FV Player update..?
I could do it via FTP but again, I’m not sure which folder to upload to my plugins folder. (fv-wordpress-flowplayer-master)?3 years ago in reply to: How can I delete Subtitle Language tracksHello Martin, thanks for your help with this.
As you say, it adds an empty language above the ones I added, but if that’s not a bug, it’s OK.
I didn’t report this a a bug, I only asked how I can delete a language because somehow I have two English subtitles on one of our videos, so I naturally want to delete the duplicate.
I was unable to find a way to delete a language – and if I simply delete the link to the captions, it shows “Saved” in the bottom-left corner, but when I reopen the Editor, the link is back again!
I’m using Safari Version 15.4. When I get time, I’ll try with Chrome or Firefox.3 years ago in reply to: Have rounded corners ?My apologies, I found the answer to rounding corners on the splash image on the link Martin provided!
Thanks – it works very well!
Andy3 years ago in reply to: Have rounded corners ?I just found this, and Martin’s code works well EXCEPT for the splash image. In other words, the corners are square until the video begins to play, and then they are rounded.
Can you help please?
Andy3 years ago in reply to: Player ignores caption formattingHello Maria,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I’m very glad to see the Spanish subtitles appear to have ‘healed-up’ – but I’m confused as to why it happened!
I will continue to try to find out…
I’m sorry to have wasted your time.
Best wishes, Andy3 years ago in reply to: Player ignores caption formattingAs I thought, even with the code corrected, all the captions appear with white font.

3 years ago in reply to: Player ignores caption formattingMy apologies! (It’s a pity we cannot edit our posts).
I can see an error in the formatting of the snippet I provided (the arrow should have two dashes –> not one). I’ll correct it to see whether it makes any difference – but I doubt it, as the other videos are formatted correctly and the formatting is ignored on those.3 years ago in reply to: Audio Muted (Autoplay is disabled)Thank you Mária,
Well, we all make mistakes! We’ll put it behind us now. As I said we’re very fond of FV Player and hope to use more of it’s features in the future.
And OK – I’ll go ahead with the reinstall then!
Best wishes, Andy3 years ago in reply to: Audio Muted (Autoplay is disabled)Thank you for your eventual reply…
We are all busy, but some word that you were taking my post seriously would have avoided a lot of serious worry on our part over the past days.
Instead, the post was ‘awaiting moderation’ so we didn’t know whether we would ever get the player working again… It’s our income, so it’s an extremely serious matter for us.
WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FV PLAYER, but if you could sharpen-up your communication, it would save a lot of worry.
As it happened, once I found that a public video would play in a browser (with audio) I knew it had to be the player or WordPress (not Amazon s3 or CloudFront) so this morning, I reinstalled the player. I don’t know whether you had updated the player by the time I reinstalled FV Player (early this morning) but it worked, and it’s working now!
I have 7.5.10.727 – and the Pro plugin is 7.5.11.727.
The theme is Twenty Twenty-One.
After the stress of the past 48 hours, I don’t feel inclined to install the plugin on your link just now. The site is working well again now, so I might wait for the official update release – but I do appreciate you providing the link – thank you.
We have a saying in the UK – “if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it” and in this case, that’s what I’m doing.
Thank you for the plugin fix – but please SAY something to assure customers you’re looking into their worries!
Best wishes, Andy3 years ago in reply to: Audio Muted (Autoplay is disabled)UPDATE!
Video plays fine (including audio) when I by-pass FV Player by pasting the s3/CloudFront video url into a browser.3 years ago in reply to: Audio Muted (Autoplay is disabled)If it helps, the OS is Mac 12.0.1
One of our videos is located at: https://workingsheepdog.co.uk/tv6 years ago in reply to: CC Captions not showingFIXED!
Trawling the internet, I read that .vtt files have to be stored on the same domain as the player, so putting the file on Amazon s3 was the mistake.I uploaded the .vtt to our WordPress site, and it now plays fine.
6 years ago in reply to: CC Captions not showingI should have mentioned that we’re using the Beta version of FV Player Pro (Quality Switching fix for playlists) rather than the release version.
Since my post, I stripped out all the .vtt file’s colour formatting in case that was this issue, but it made no difference.
WEBVTT Kind: captions 00:00:03.680 --> 00:00:06.360 People ask me, "What are the most important rules 00:00:06.360 --> 00:00:07.520 when you're training a sheep dog?" 00:00:19.760 --> 00:00:23.960 these are just a few, and they're all very important.
