Q: Can FV Player be used outside of WordPress?
A: FV Player is to this date WordPress-only player.
Developing a stand-alone plugin is still one of our big goals for the future but right now we rather focus on maintaining and improving our platform than developing a new plugin.
Update: A standalone version is coming soon, hopefully in the first half of 2023.
Q: Why is autoplay muted?
A: Sadly, there is no way to autoplay videos unmuted. This is due to restrictions set by browsers, which only support muted autoplay. Therefore, the users have to unmute it manually each time. This goes for most browsers. Only with Chrome desktop browser, the preference for unmuted autoplay is remembered, and the videos continue to autoplay with sound.
For more information on this, please, consult this article.
Q: Does FV Player protect my videos from being downloaded?
A: The FV Player plugin does provide some base video protection. But do keep in mind, that after all it is just a video player, meant to insert and play the already protected video on your website.
Download protection depends on where you decide to host your videos, and what types of protection you choose to set up with it. You can read up on the various methods of protection and the differences between them in this guide. You can learn more about each of these security optionsin this section of our documentation.
Currently, the most secure option is the combination of streaming the video files plus adding encryption. Such protection is supported by the HLS protocol. The encryption is possible through encoding and encrypting services, such as AWS MediaConvert or Coconut.
Q: Does FV Player protect my videos from screen capturing?
A: We counter screen-capturing with DRM Text which serves as a watermark on your video. The DRM Text box contains the IP address of the viewer, their username, date, time and site’s name. This text gets imprinted into the captured video, thus either deterring possible thieves from capturing the video or giving you the ability to claim ownership of a stolen video. Learn more in our DRM Text guide.
Q: Does the player use cookies? How can I become more GDRP compliant?
A: Our plugins do not collect any personal data about the users that interact with the plugin on our customer’s site. Since all the cookies get set in Local Storage of user’s browser, the data does not need to come into contact with our servers, nor do we save or use them in any way to create a user’s profile.
The plugins do, however, use some preference cookies that get stored in the browser. These are used only for remembering the preferred video quality (if a user manually chooses SD quality instead of HD, videos viewed in future will also start playing in SD quality by default), remembering the video position (where a user left of watching), remembering the video playback speed and volume.
You can turn these off too! To learn more, consult this guide. However, this comes at the price of decreased comfort for your users.
Keep in mind that your hosting provider and other 3rd-party services you use with the As for videos embedded from YouTube, we use the youtube-nocookie.com domain by default.
Note that FV Player’s built in stats are completely anonymous and do not use any cookies.
Q: I need to customize my player but cannot find the appropriate setting!
A: Try referring to our CSS Tips and Fixes guide. It’s an ever-expanding long list of CSS codes to help you do various visual changes to your player. You don’t need to be scared, there’s an guide on how to use them too and it’s really easy.
Q: How do I use the built-in video checker and send you an report?
A: The video checker is on by default and work when you’re logged in as admin. You’ll see a text in upper left corner of any video on your site. All the necessary info can be found in this guide.
