    FV Player Coconut FAQ

    • How much does FV Player Coconut cost?
    • Will FV Player Coconut protect my videos from being downloaded?
    • Why shouldn’t I just use Bunny Stream?
    • Why shouldn’t I just use AWS?
    • How much cheaper is it than Amazon Web Services?
    • Can I use my own service of choicce with FV Player Coconut?
    • I am using FV Player Coconut and I want to use several domains. Do I need to create new Coconut and DigitalOcean accounts?
    • My website domain has changed, will the videos encrypted for the old domain stil play?

Q: Will FV Player Coconut protect my videos from being downloaded?

A: Yes, in a sense. FV Player Coconut will help you set up and easily use a very secure workflow consisting of DigitalOcean Spaces for hosting and distribution and Coconut.co for encoding and encrypting. This way, you will obtain secure hosting, fast and secure delivery anywhere and videos in various qualities that cannot be simply downloaded, as the file is scrambled up and requires a decryption key from your website to successfully play. This is currently the highest protection possible. You can learn more about various video protection methods in our guide. This workflow combines encrypted HLS streams with hotlinking protection.

Q: How much does FV Player Coconut cost?

A: We don’t charge you anything. The plugin itself is completely free. However, keep in mind that you will be charged by the respective services based on your usage.

Q: Why shouldn’t I just use Bunny Stream?

A: Bunny Stream is cheap, reliable, very easy to use and we provide the very same workflow integration as with FV Player Coconut. So what’s the downfall?

Firstly, what other players supporting Bunny Streams don’t tell you, is that it actually does not allow for their encryption solution to be used in third-party players. So that means lower level of video download protection than FV Player Coconut or an Amazon Web Services workflow. However, we are actively working on removing this limitation and making the protection better.

Secondly, you might be thinking that it doesn’t matter since you can just use Bunny.net’s built-in video player. Of course you can do that, but remember to see the features of that player before deciding. Truth be told, the Bunny Stream native player is just an accessory to the workflow which has only basic features. Making use of it in WordPress, especially if you want to use page builders or LMS is a no-go too. Bunny Stream player has zero WordPress integrations.

Long story short, we point our customers towards Bunny Stream often, it’s just not for everyone. If you don’t mind slightly lower protection, using Bunny Stream with FV Player is absolutely the best for you. If you don’t care about any advanced player features, multiple hosting services, being able to change CDN on the fly, or managing your videos right in your WordPress, using Bunny Stream with advanced protection in their own player is for you.

Q: Why shouldn’t I just use Amazon Web Services?

A: If you already use AWS for your other needs, or with to only trust the biggest and best company in business, then AWS is great for you! However, if you’re new or unsure, then you might want to question why would you use something that is not only significantly costlier but also much harder to do and maintain.

FV Player Coconut is significantly cheaper, and Bunny Stream is even cheaper. Find out more in our pricing comparison. Furthermore, both FV Player Coconut and Bunny Stream are much easier to set up and maintain.

Once set up, you’ll still have to go and upload your source videos to AWS, but both Bunny Stream and FV Player Coconut can be fully operated via WordPress Media Library.

Q: How much cheaper is it than Amazon Web Services?

A: Find out in our encoding pricing comparison article.

Q: Can I use my own service of choice with FV Player Coconut?

A: Of course, we can create a custom workflow as a paid job for you, or if we end up liking your service choice very much, we might end up supporting it in general. Just contact us over at support@foliovision.com and let us know about the service and why did you pick it.

Q: I am using FV Player Coconut and I want to use several domains. Do I need to create new Coconut and DigitalOcean accounts?

A: No, you can easily add more domains to your existing accounts. Just install FV Player Coconut on the other domain and the setup will automatically create a new DigitalOcean Space for the other domains. Coconut.co can work with any domain.

Q: My website domain has changed, will the videos encrypted for the old domain stil play?

A: Due to the nature of encrypted HLS streams each stream will only play on the domain for which it was first encrypted.

We make that a bit easier with FV Player Pro and also accept all the sub-domains. So if you encrypt your videos on staging.website.com they will keep playing when you launch tour website as website.com.

If you change your website domain completely then you need to use the wp-admin -> FV Player -> Tools -> Encrypted Playback for 3rd Part Domains (Pro) tool to make FV Player Pro aware of your old domain for which the videos should play.

You also need a FV Player license for this old domain.
