Videos not playing in Firefox, but work in Chrome

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Videos not playing in Firefox, but work in Chrome

  • Leona M. 4 years, 5 months ago

I have my videos on an Amazon S3 some in .mov and mp4. The videos play through fv player fine in Chrome on the wordpress site, but in Firefox only some are loading and a strike through the play button? Can’t read the text on video as logo is on top left, but reads “please reload the page and play it again”. All help would be appreciated! Thanks!

    Hello Leona,

thanks for reaching out to us!

Could you please provide us with a link to such an problematic video, so we could test the issue hands-on?

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late response. I have all the videos in a members section in the website, here is a link to one of the videos, but you will need to log in first to access it.
    (redacted)
I have also found this problem to be happening sometimes in chrome aswell. Viewing mainly on a Mac OS High Sierra, but we have had a few people test on a PC and similar issues.
    Thanks so much
    Leona

    Hello Leona,

could you, please, also provide us with the information from your video checker? Here’s how to use the video checker: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/how-to-use-video-checker

I tested your videos and they do not work in any browser. It seems your MIME type is not set correctly. If it is a MIME problem, the video checker should also inform you about it.Please, check, if you have everything set up according to this guide: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/secure-amazon-s3-guide/fix-amazon-mime-type

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi Maria

Thanks for the reply and checking, i did the video checker and it reads: “Admin: Video issues” in top left. I am just going through setting the mime section on amazon s3. Just so you know, the link on your help and didn’t work, so I found it here: https://bucket-explorer.en.softonic.com/mac I can see what i have to do, but i am having issues opening bucket explorer and the site seems to be deleted. It keeps timing out and the software is from 2013, is there an alternative? with some simple help. Thanks so much for your help! So want to launch this site.

    Hello Leona,

are you sure you hit the “Send report to Foliovision” button in the video checker? We haven’t received any report of your video. Or you can provide a screenshot of it.

I tried on to play video on that link https://artistsresource.co.uk/members/primary-secondary-colour-study-part-1/ and go the “Video file expired” error. It appears your might be using invalid AWS S3 keys. I would recommend you to check the steps in “Obtainsing the AWS Access Keys” here: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/secure-amazon-s3-guide#keys

You are also caching the page HTML with W3 Total Cache for logged in users. So I would recommend you to enable Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting -> Amazon S3 Protected Content -> Amazon S3 Ajax (Pro). That is also a better way of protecting the videos.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Thanks Martin, I redid the key and still no luck. I just sent you the report from video checker, screenshot attached. Please let me know what to do asap. Thanks so much!

    Hello Leona,

once you finished the “Obtainsing the AWS Access Keys” part of the guide at https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/secure-amazon-s3-guide#keys please try to use the S3 Browser in FV Player: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/how-s3-browser And try to insert some video that way.

Then check if it works and compare the URL to what you are using. Perhaps you are using bad S3 bucket name.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin
They are connected and they showed up when I added media. I inserted and did some tests, the video appeared ok on MP4s and was getting errors on .movs. When i view in browsers, same problem as before. But this time the MP4s played, but kept jumping back to beginning.
The bucket name is very all in lower case letters and simple, also switched off W3 Total Cache to see if theres a difference, but still no luck.

Would you also be so kind and delete the last screenshot on the attachment, on last post. As i didn’t realise this was public.

    Thanks so much! Leona

Really appreciate you getting back to me as soon as you can, as i really to get this sorted. Thankyou

    Hello Leona,

I removed that attachment. I had a look at https://artistsresource.co.uk/members/primary-secondary-colour-study-part-1/ and noticed an interesting thing – the video started to play just fine with the bare video link without any signature added to it:

https://artistsresourcevideos.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/PRIMARY..{this part of URL is removed}.._PART1.mov

Then it only failed once the signature was added to the link. So it really looks like your Amazon S3 setup is broken. First the videos are set to be public – they are not protected against downloads. Second, the AWS access keys are wrong.

I would suggest you to go through our guide step by step: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/secure-amazon-s3-guide

We also offer the service for the Amazon S3 setup in case you really need help with the fixing: https://foliovision.com/downloads/setting-up-amazon-s3

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin
Thanks for your reply and removing attach, find this very bizzare as the keys are correct and i am following all your guides 100%. But yes, there still seems to be a problem, i have changed the file names, new buckets, permissions, etc and still no luck. I am confused as my S3 is set up and connected fine, please check this through add to media section. Keys are not wrong, can you please help.
    Many thanks
    Leona

    Hello Leona,

the video on https://artistsresource.co.uk/members/primary-secondary-colour-study-part-1/ is still downloadable without the S3 URL signature. So when you check that file properties on AWS S3 you should at least see that it’s set to be publicly available.

As I noted we do offer the service for the Amazon S3 setup in case you would like us to actually fix the issue on your WordPress site and AWS S3: https://foliovision.com/downloads/setting-up-amazon-s3

Othewise I can continue giving you some troubleshooting tips. I would recommend you to try to setup a new S3 bucket with new IAM user keys just to see if it will work.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Leona M. 4 years ago

Thanks Martin, i have checked the file properties on the S3 and all is publicly available. I don’t mind if people can download the file, i just want to see the player working for now. I appreciate your help, but there must be a fix to this and I know its close. I would like to figure it out, as i want to manage. What do you think is happening now? as i am all out on ideas. I have set the permissions, can’t the video checker give a clear diagnostics on whats going on? Thanks for the speedy reply!

    Martin 4 years ago

    Hello Leona,

I would suggest you store what’s configured in wp-admin -> Settings -> FV Player -> Hosting tab -> Amazon S3 Protected Content and then remove these settings. As your videos are publicly available there is no need to use the signed URLs for them.

In the worst case you can still just put back the settings which you stored.

    Thanks,
    Martin
