Bunny.net download and collection / playlist import

[Solved]

    Hello foliovision,

I am planing to switch from vimeo to bunny.net, and I know you are still working on integrating it. Got the basic features to work with some custom tweaks, however it would be great to have the following features soon, or an estimate when those may be available:
    – download videos in a fv-playlist (atm the link will download the bunny.net m3u8 playlist file of the video)
    – add (all videos in) a collection as playlist and provide download links in bulk like you added for vimeo

Keep up the great work, thanks in advance, I believe that bunny.net may become more and more interesting in regards to the “suprising” notifications one may get by vimeo…

    Best
    Christian

    Hello Christian,

thank you for reaching out to us!

The integration is already finished. We integrated the service into a simple workflow operating right in your WordPress media library: https://foliovision.com/2021/12/bunny-stream-support

    Here’s a more detailed guide: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/bunny-stream-player-integration

I will make sure to forward your suggestions to our development team, to see what they think.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Christian,

I see Bunny Stream actually does provide a way of linking to the original video file. That could work with the FV Player Pro video downloads. I will check with Alec if we can add that feature into FV Player Pro easily.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Christian,

FV Player Pro 7.5.25.7210 is out and you can now use [fvplayer_download id="1234"] to have it show the download link for your Bunny Stream video used in that FV Player ID.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hey,

with 7.5.29.7210 and 7.5.41.7212 PRO version (or something with bunny.net changed?) when using the download link option it now – again – downloads the playlist.m3u8 file instead of the actual video. I personally have not used the feature in the last weeks, it was only today reported by one of my users, so I can not say for sure when the functionality exactly it broke. Any idea what is happening here?

This is how the created link now looks like: https://[***]/?fvplayer_download=https%3A%2F%2Fvz-%5B***%5D.b-cdn.net%2F8%5B***%5Dd247d%2Fplaylist.m3u8&post_id=4%5B**%5D3&expire=1699123217&signature=5d%5B***%5Dd5

Thanks as always for the great plugin,

    Hello Christian,

Please check if that video link uses the same domain as what’s in wp-admin -> FV Player -> Bunny Stream Jobs -> Settings -> “Stream Library CDN Hostname”.

Other than that I don’t see what could be wrong. The fact that you see the m3u8 path in the download link is not a problem.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hey Martin,

    thanks for the fast reply!
I can confirm, that the Stream Library entry is correct, just copied it over again to be 200% sure. Still the same: It downloads the m3u8 file instead of the mp4.

    Thanks for looking into it,

    Hello Christian,

I’m not sure what could be wrong, please follow these instructions to provide debug information:

Please deactivate and delete the FV Player Pro plugin you are using, then hit “Install Pro extension” at the top of the wp-admin -> FV Player -> Settings screen.

Then switch to the Beta release using the steps from here if you are not already using it: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta

Finally install the Simple History plugin to which FV Player Pro logs the downloads: https://foliovision.com/player/features/sharing/video-downloading-with-simple-history#integration-with-simple-history

Now when you try to download a video you should see the following messages in Simple History when downloading a video (you can search by your user email address if there’s too much logs):

    • User downloaded video {link} from ‘{post title}’ ({post ID}) IP {ip}
    • Debug: It’s Bunny Stream video: {link}
    • Debug: Actual download src: {link}

I wonder what output you get.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hey Martin,

thanks again for your help, I fixed the issue and feel kinda stupid now :)

After performing all the steps as described above I did not get any log entry for any download. This made me wonder, if the functionality is somehow completely blocked, and why the content of the m3u8 was sort of a website dump…

So I did dig a bit deeper only to find, that due to loading “””optimizations””” the FV Plugins scripts do not get loaded for homepage renders, only for posts and pages. My thinking here was that I only need them on the exact content with the videos in them.
So sorry for wasting your time on this issue, however I wonder if the script loading could be optimized in a way that it is only loaded for the content type where the videos are, like i.e. only for posts :)

Thanks again for pushing me into the right direction, keep up the good work,

    Hello Christian,

We like to selectively disable plugins on high traffic websites too. It can really lower the PHP processing time down to about 150 milliseconds.

Did you find that FV Player was slowing down anything or did it just ended up being disabled as it did not seem to be required for your homepage or archives?

It seems to me in your case you can continue only enabling FV Player on single articles, just make sure you do not show the download button outside of these pages.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hey Martin,

it is more a general thing like “don’t need? Don’t load”. That said no, I think there are plugins that need way more optimizing, FV is fine :) There was no slowing down or any other issues I noticed.

    Best
    Christian
