File Not Found with Chrome

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Bug Reports › File Not Found with Chrome

  • Miles .. 5 years, 1 month ago

Hello, I’ve had a few users report to me that they’re getting “html5: Video file not found” using Chrome. I’ve tested it myself and the videos work fine using Firefox/Edge on Desktop, and it also works fine using Firefox/Chrome on mobile, however using Chrome on Desktop, not so much with that.

I’ve used the admin video checker, and for the most part it’s not generating an error. I’ve also tried disabling Autoptimize and deleted the cache, but again, didn’t do anything.

Any idea what might be the problem here? Seems to be only happening on Desktop while using Chrome.

    WTH !!?!?!?!?!??!

I’ll be happy to send you my site specifics so you can see what’s going on with it or provide you with a login so that you can tool around.

    HELP!!?!??!?!?!?!?

    Hello Miles,

We’re here to help your solve those issues.

First of all, what kind of hosting do you use for your videos?
Also, can you please provide us a link to such a particular video?

    Thanks,
    Juraj

    Hello Miles,

Thanks for providing us the link. I’ve checked it and there’s an 403 Acess forbidden error. Please activate our Video Admin checker and check the video with it. If any error appears please copy it into your reply, thanks!

Making the web work for you,
    Juraj

    Hello Miles,

please check that “Mixed content” warning at the end of that video checker message. You need to link to your video using https://

I see we should be shortening that video URL in that popup and change this kind of Mixed content message from a warning to a full-blown error as it’s so important for Chrome now.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

After updating to the latest version of both WP and FV, I am having the SAME issue as described above. And yes I have the admin checker enabled, and it showing the same error primary error msg as above “File Not Found, Please Reload the Page…”, but it’s not showing me the detailed one below that (the screen shot).

Something is amiss on two levels.

Chrome will not play the videos.

Safari, FireFox, and Edge play them, Chrome does not.

    Hello Miles,

I had a look at https://tangotopics.com/handpressyarm/ with Chrome and it plays without issues. Perhaps it doesn’t work when you are logged in, so test in the Incognito browser mode or in the Guest window.

    Thanks,
    Martin

I tried these as well, WITHOUT being logged in….

    https://tangotopics.com/five-lead-errors/
    https://tangotopics.com/tango-noise/

    And that’s just for starters….

    oh and https://tangotopics.com/handpressyarm/

    Doesn’t work for me either.

Not to get persnickity but what on earth are you seeing that I’m NOT!!?!?!?!??!??!

I tried them from the Incognito mode, and it works just fine. Something is seriously amiss because that should work, no matter what.

    Hello Miles,

if it works for you in incognito mode than it must be some Chrome extension which you are using. Please check chrome://extensions/ and try to disable the extension on-by-one until you find the one which is responsible for this.

If you know a bit about web development you can also try to open your browser developer console (here’s how https://foliovision.com/player/troubleshooting/javascript-browser-console), then try to load the page with the video again and play it. See if any error appears on the console. It might be caused by some browser extension.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,

Thanks for the reminder about the dev tools. I already knew about them and went to them first but clearly didn’t go deep enough because now I’m seeing the issue: I’m getting a 403 error. That means there’s a permissions error somewhere in the chain. However, why would the video play at all in incognito mode if there were a permissions error ?

Just for giggles while I was writing this, I ran an incognito mode window and ran this link (https://tangotopics.com/five-lead-errors/) and I’m still getting a 403 Error.

Can you confirm that you’re seeing the same thing ?

So there’s clearly a permissions error somewhere in the chain.

    Any ideas ?

    Hello Miles,

I’m able to play the video on https://tangotopics.com/five-lead-errors/ without issues.

When you check the Network panel of the developer tools you should see there are 2 requests for the mp4 file. The first one will get 403 error and it’s normal. Then there is a second request where the mp4 file link also has the AWS signature on it and that one should succeed.

Please let us know if you are using and browser extensions and if you tried to disable them all. Or try to click to open the Guest window in Google Chrome and try to test there. Such window opens without any browsing history and extensions and it’s a good place to test, even better than an incognito mode.

    Thanks,
    Martin
