I’m experiencing an odd issue with slow loading media under certain cases. After some testing, here’s a repeatable scenario:
I have 4 players on the page, all pointing to mp3 files:
- mp3 4mb 4min
- mp3 3mb 3min
- mp3 56mb 60min
- mp3 58mb 61 min
I start playing the files one by one skipping to the next one after 5-10 sec of playback. On file 4 it gets stuck – that is, file 3 is still playing but file 4 is “loading”. It may take few minutes to load.
If I reload the page and play file number 4 it plays fine.
The exact play sequence may differ but it gets stuck as soon as longer files are involved or after skipping among short files for some time.
All mp3 are in public /uploads/ folder. No protection of any sort. All urls are valid.
Same issue in any major browser.
The same setup works just fine in 7.4, nothing gets stuck.

unfortunately we were not able to reproduce the issue on our end. Please provide a link to a test page where we can see the issue.
Do you also run into it on https://foliovision.com/player/demos/mp3-in-fv-player ?
Please let us know what operating system you are using and which browsers you have tried.

I was able to trace this to incompatibility with another plugin. I don’t have a solution as of yet, I’m looking at various options.

please let us know which plugin was causing the issue if you have a minute. I wouldn’t guess that a plugin can interfere with audio track loading so much.

Sorry about the delayed response.
It’s a non-trivial case. To the best of my knowledge the issue is caused by the combination of two plugins – Protect WordPress Videos & Audios and Easy Digital Downloads.
The media works just fine when either plugin is active but not both at the same time. I still need to dig deeper to pinpoint the exact cause. I have a staging site with just these 3 plugins installed (no custom code, default WP theme) if you’d like to take a look.

at I glance I did not notice anything that would allow Protected Video plugin to affect FV Player. It’s surely not doing anything to protect videos posted with FV Player.
My suggestion would be to check the browser developer tools carefully and see what changes when the video doesn’t play with FV Player anymore. Here’s how to open the browser developer console: https://foliovision.com/player/troubleshooting/javascript-browser-console
Please keep the console open as you play different MP3 audio tracks in FV Player until it starts to fail. Will any error appear on the console?

We’re talking about different plugins. I’m referring to this: https://preventdirectaccess.com/extensions/protect-wordpress-videos/
To recap, the issue only occurs when both plugins are active: PDA’s protect videos extension and EDD. If I disable the EDD all media loads just fine.
To answer your question: no errors in the console. The media does load eventually, it just takes long time.
To put this in context (why I’m going through all the trouble with the protection). I’m in the music production / licensing and I have to deal with stolen content on the nearly daily basis. It’s rampant and it causes issues for legit licensees. This is just another tool to use along with digital fingerprinting, content id, and so on.

I don’t know what technique Protect WordPress Videos & Audios is using to protect FV Player video and audio files and it’s not easy to figure it out. Did you get any hints from authors of that plugin?
Do you run into the same issue when not using FV Player for your audio tracks, but the audio player built into WordPress?

As far as I can tell, the issue is between the PDA and EDD. It has nothing to do with the FV player specifically.
Yes, this is being looked into by the developers of the plugins. Thanks for your help! I can keep you posted if you’re interested to know the results.
