HD Button not showing for Vimeo

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › HD Button not showing for Vimeo

  • Valentin S. 2 years, 9 months ago

    Hi foliovision team.

I’m using the fv-player pro since several months on my website and had never a problem with embedding or other stuff. Today a customer told me, that the last videos are only available in 360p. I checked, he was right, so I checked the videos in vimeo, where I host all my stuff. The quality control in vimeo is working.

Maybe its nice to know, that those videos, where the button is not showing are in a portfolio, which is embedded thorugh fv player. Interestingly only the last 4 or 5 videos are affected. All other videos in the same portfolio, on the same site and in the same embed have the option to change the quality.

    Any idea on that?

    Best regards.

    Hello Valentin,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

Could you please send us a report via our built-in video checker? The way the video checker works is that you need to come in as admin and open the video checker and send us a report about the video. Or screenshot it and send it over here. You might do that for one of the malfunctioning videos and for a one where the buttons show up.

    Thanks,
    Maria

I shit you not, but checked or unchecked, there is no video checker in the upper left corner or anywhere else. Neither in frontend nor backend. At any video.

    Best regards

    Hello Valentin,

This issue is known to arise when user’s server blocks our server from connecting. For video checker to work, it needs to be able to contact our server.

Please, try adding an exception for https://video-checker.foliovision.com/ to your CORS headers config.

Let us know, if it helped.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Valentin,

if the video checker does not appear at all, then it’s a different issue and you do not need to check for access issues which Maria suggested.

Are you sure you are checking the page with FV Player as editor or administrator? Are you using any page builder?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Maria, hello Martin.

First of all, great customer service!!! Thanks to Maria for the reply and thanks to Martin for reviewing. Unexpected.

I’m sure I’m logged in as admin, actually double checked it several days ago as I had the same thought.
For several pages I’m using Elementor. Nevertheless besides the header of the videopage it shouldn’t effect anything as the videos are implemented through Learndash. I didn’t made any changes to Learndash with Elementor whatsoever.

    Best regards.

    Hello Valentin,

    you mentioned:

The quality control in vimeo is working.

The video checker does not work for the Vimeo videos.

Please send a link to one of your videos on Vimeo, or create a test page on your website where we can watch one of your videos without the quality switching.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hi. Sorry for the late reply.

Interestingly the videos BEFORE the 05.08.2022 can be played in HD.

    Hello Valentin,

you are using FV Player Vimeo Security addon. Some video qualites of the new Vimeo videos do not use segmented video files, but large MP4 files with range requests. Some video downloading tools are able to find these MP4 files and then download the video.

So what we did with our Vimeo Security addon was the last resort – we check all the video qualities and remove the ones which use MP4 files. That way we can still protect the video from downloading.

But it seems that for your videos the 1080p or 1440p video quality is very important.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

thats bad. At least 720p is crucial as you can see. Is there any way we can deliver our videos in HD while prevent downloading?

But nice to know, that you keep your plugins updated.

    Best regards,

    Hello Valentin,

only thing which we can do right now is to lower the protection on these new videos.

It would be then possible to download the video MP4 file, but at least it would be video only – no audio track – as Vimeo keeps the video and audio tracks separate.

Then we can check if we could use the HLS format for videos like this.

    Thanks
    Martin

Our videos are invaluable without sound so this would actually work for us.
How can I set this or is it some stuff you have to do?

    Best regards

    Hello Valentin,

this has been adjusted on the API end. So now your new videos are less protected, the video-only track can be downloaded with the right tool, but it will have no audio. We will check if we could use HLS in cases like this.

    Thanks
    Martin

    Awesome! The Livetradingvideos work.
Keep me updated with the HLS if you’ve got the time. Sounds interesting.

Moreover my customers, as well as me, have this kind of message at the playlist of the “Don-Calls”.
    https://donz-tradingfloor.de/lessons/don-calls-runde-3/

    HTML5: Loading of video cancelled.
Please use a modern up to date browser like firefox or chrome.

Strange enough as my browser (chrome) is up to date and other videos from other playlists, like the livetradings, work just fine.

Sorry for all the problems ^^

    Martin 3 years ago

    Hello Valentin,

these videos now play. Another fix in the API.

We are going to do some experiments with the HLS streams.

    Thanks,
    Martin
