Using Google Universal Analytics with FV Player

I can’t find the list of individual videos in Google Analytics. The Google Analytics interface has changed since this article was posted, and I can’t figure out how to see most played videos or views per video.

    Hello Asa,

thank you for reaching out to us!

The way to access individual videos in Universal Analytics remains the same: Behavior > Events > Top events and once there, you will have to change the primary dimension to Event Label. As you can see in our guide: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/google-analytics-fv-player#views-per-video

The interface remains the same too. Please, make sure you are not using Google Analytics 4. As in Google Analytics 4, there sadly is no way to see views per individual videos right now. You can see the guide for GA4 here: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/google-analytics-videos-4

    Thanks,
    Maria

Fab! While we are migrating things from GA3 to GA4, is it possible to enter BOTH Google Analytics IDs?

    Hello Ab,

I apologize for the late answer, thank you for your patience.

A single GA ID is presupposed, but you may try dividing the IDs by a comma. It may just work. Please, let us know, if it does.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hi Maria,

Unfortunately, it doesn’t – the comma gets removed on save…
Any chance to get that fixed to accept both IDs?

    Thanks

    Hello Ab,

I’m sorry to hear that. I will forward this to the development team, but keep in mind that this is an unusual request we do not expect many users to benefit from. But perhaps it can be implemented fast and easily.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Ab,

unfortunately it wouldn’t be easy to include both kinds of tracing at once. If you know JavaScript well enough you can probably figure it out in flowplayer/modules/analytics.module.js, but I wouldn’t advise that as you are migrating to GA4 anyway.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hi, unfortunately, if I use the GA4 measurement ID then nothing gets tracked in GA4. Any idea why?

    Hello Ab,

while adding the measurement ID should be enough to make FV Player track properly, you might want to make sure you have the global gtag.js tag on your site.

Also, many changes in GA take up to 48 hours to take effect. Is the issue still persistent?

    Thanks,
    Maria

We have GTM setup for the site and are collecting data both via UA/GA3 and GA4. Also, this issue persisted for longer than a week so it’s not just a question of GA taking its time to show what’s going on…

    Martin 3 years ago

    Hello Ab,

I checked /company/events/webinar-video/ on your website and could see FV Player is set to track with UA-11..86-1. So that’s GA3.

What happens if you configure it to use GTM-W...Z found in your GTM tag?

What happens if you remove the analytics ID from FV Player completely? It should still detect GTM that way.

If none of the above will fix the issue, then it seems we need a way of configuring if the GTM should be used in the GA3 or GA4 mode.

    Thanks,
    Martin
