How to stop playlist auto-advancing even when turned off

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › How to stop playlist auto-advancing even when turned off

    Hello,

I’m working on a site with FV player pro, and I’m having trouble turning off the auto-advance on the playlist, even when I think I’ve got it disabled everywhere.

I need the player to select one video in the playlist at random, play just that one video with pre/post roll, then stop. Unfortunately, the player wants to go through the playlist anyway.

What am I missing? Here are the settings for Global, Playlist, and the shortcode I’m using.

    ▶Global settings:
—Interface: Playlist Auto Advance, autoplay, randomize autoplay are all UNCHECKED,

—Sitewide FV player defaults: Disable Playlist Autoadvance is CHECKED

    —Autoplay and preloading is OFF

    ▶Playlist Settings:
    — Randomize autoplay playlist and end of video actions are both toggled OFF

    ▶Shortcode
    [fvplayer id="2" width="50%" height="50%" ratio="16:9" randomize="true" playlist_advance="false" playlist_hide="true" loop="false"]

    Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for reporting the issue with auto-advance. The issue is with Random Playback. If you are jumping into the playlists with Random Playback, auto-advance is automatically enabled.

Are you able to run off Random Playback or is it important for your use case?

    Thank you Alec,

The random playback function is critical.

The particular use is to show a random video each time the site is accessed, but only one.

    Hi Jennifer,

Random Playback should respect playlist playback options in my opinion. We probably have a publisher who wanted an exception. I don’t want to add yet another preference (we offer too many already, we were too eager to solve every use case in the past).

We’ll figure out at least a hidden preference to make this work.

Thanks for being part of Foliovision!

While I’m here, I’m getting Javascript errors from the player, and have already done all the traditional troubleshooting.

The only error in my JS console is coming from a read-only plugin file from the host. (I’ve already asked them to disable it for even a few minutes for me to test, and was refused)

Is there a known conflict when a (popular) managed hosting plan is throwing out an error with “Uncaught ReferenceError: gdlLiveSiteControlData is not defined at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> (publish-guide.js?ver=4089e49b1332937ce791:5:2287)”

If it’s not known, that’s fine. I’m just trying to figure it out.

    Hello Jeniffer,

We have worked on improving the behavior of the Randomize Autoplay Playlist function with the video ads.

Could you please reinstall FV Player from this link? https://foliovision.com/downloads/fv-player-8.zip

Then also deactivate and delete the FV Player Pro plugin you are using, then hit “Install Pro extension” at the top of the wp-admin -> FV Player -> Settings screen.

Finally switch to the Beta release using the steps from here if you are not already using it: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta

That will give you the new code where each Randomize Autoplay Playlist starts with a random video ad, followed by an actual video.

Then it will not advance to the next video if “Disable Playlist Autoadvance” is checked.

Currently it won’t play the post-roll ad though.

You can test the way it works here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/random-auto-play-playlists

    Thanks,
    Martin
