Hello,
Is there an option to add a download button to the player? I know there is a separate shortcode that creates a download link. That’s not what I want. In my website, I display videos in lightbox. I want to be able to download the video from the player itself while it’s open in lightbox. If a download button is not part of your controls, Can I add a custom button to the player using php / jquery / CSS?
Thank you!

Hello Harold,
We are actually working on this feature and we are planning to add it in the near future into the FV Player Pro beta version. It’s possible that it could be released next week. I’ll try to get back to you in this thread when it’s out.
Thanks,
Eduard
Hi Eduard
I received the email saying Flowplayer 7.2.0 is out. Is that the version with the download button I was waiting for?
I have the FV Player Pro plugin version 0.8.39. I still don’t see any download button on the players on my website. Do I need to change any settings or add any parameters to the shortcode to see the download button?
Hello Charles,
thank you for reaching out to us!
This thread is 4 years old. I am happy to tell you that the download button has been a part of FV Player for ages, Eduard just must’ve forgotten to let this user know, or did let him know via a different support channel.
You can learn how to use the button here: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/video-downloading-with-simple-history
However, the feature is a part of the FV Player Pro version. If you’re interested, you can learn more and purchase it here: https://foliovision.com/downloads/fv-player-license
Here you can see all the other features you’d be getting with the Pro version: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/player-pro-features
Thanks,
Maria
Hello Charles,
I think you are interested in the download button which would be a part of the player directly, just like Harold said when starting this thread:
I know there is a separate shortcode that creates a download link. That’s not what I want.
We were looking into this just couple of weeks ago and the download button could technically be added into the player control bar. However when we looked at different video websites out there we found that the players which do provide the download button show it below the player together with some other useful information like number of views, likes or embed button.
So we are thinking of adding such feature that would let you show a lot more useful functionality below the player.
Thanks,
Martin
Hello FV Player team. I also need this to work. I’m still using FV Player for free. but I want to buy FV Player Pro. but I have some doubts that I want to solve before buying it. I have a Movies page and I use links from Mediafire and Onedrive, but someone can steal the video link when they open the HTML code of my website. You can see the video link in the area of (<div class=”fp-player”><video class=”) I want to know if FV player Pro has a Hotlink to avoid this problem and how it works?
I have a screenshot to show you

Hi 24filmo,
Protecting downloads is not related to whether the download button is in the menu bar or below the player.
There’s no way to protect download links to MediaFire or OneDrive (sure about MediaFire, not 100% sure about OneDrive). The way to protect download links is to require signed URLs which only grant access for a short time and from your server.
Thanks, Alec
