html5 Video file not found Can’t parse the request variable – Vimeo Hosted

[Solved]

  • CXL 6 years, 5 months ago

Randomly all video hosted through vimeo gives us the error:
    html5: Video file not found
    Can’t parse the request variable

Also transcripts are also not being pulled from vimeo.

FV Player hasn’t been updated recently, no API keys or passwords have been changed, there hasn’t been a wordpress upgrade to my knowledge.

    Troubleshooting Steps Peformed:

    • set FV Player to release (previously on beta); issue persists
    • toggled Disable-MPEG Dash to off; issue persists
    • toggled Disabled MPEG Dash to on (original setting); issue persists
    • set a GET request via api to vimeo to check for issues; was able to get approriate response
    • checked for reports of vimeo outages; nothing yet
    • embedded video using vimeo provided iframe; video plays
    • checked console; getting CORB error when trying to play from FV player (this was previously resolved and unsure how/why it is showing now)
    • turned on debug in FV Settings; get message about preloading the vimeo player; has correct id; no other errors appear except CORB warning.
Can try the player at this link: https://conversionxl.com/institute/online-course/account-based-marketing/

Other online-course pages will have video to check against.

    Hi CXL,

Thanks for all the valuable information. We’re currently investigating in what is causing these parsing issues with Vimeo videos. It seems like Vimeo has suddenly changes their settings.

We’re constantly working to fix these issues as soon as possible. We’ll keep you posted and inform you about the process throughout the day.

    Thanks for the patience,
    Juraj

Thanks. We’re seeing the other threads about this issue popping up, so we know it’s a global problem.

    Hi Leeho,

Yes it was a fairly big and global problem. However, we’ve managed to solve the main issue and Vimeo videos should be working fine again.

Let us know if everything is working fine on your side. Thanks!

Making the web work for you,
    Juraj

    Tyvm, seems to work.

How did you manage to fix it without plugin updates? Are all video plays somehow going through a FV server?

    Leho Kraav 6 years ago

Even more importantly: what are the % chances of a regression with this issue?

    Hi Leho,

Yes, the Vimeo ones are going through our server which is parsing information from Vimeo. There was an issues between these two servers which caused playback errors.

We’re working on a permanent solution to prevent this from happening again in the future.

    Thanks,
    Juraj

    Hello Leho,

as explained in the newsletter, we use our own API mainly to provide:

    * improved video security – as stream URLs in Vimeo API don’t expire
    * MPEG-DASH format which is not in Vimeo API – more reliable streaming than HLS, mainly on desktop and Android
    * multiple CDNs for HLS and MPEG-DASH

FV Player Pro 7.4.2.727 can also load the Vimeo video using their API if there is problem with our API servers.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hi all. We started getting “html5: Video file not found” errors again something like 10 minutes ago today.

Are you guys seeing something on your end? Is the chain broken again somewhere?

    Martin 6 years ago

    Hello Leho,

there was a bug in the caching layer which we added to deal with repeated requests. It’s fine now and we are taking steps to improve the failover.

    Thanks,
    Martin
