The Story of Cineworx – Helping Indie Filmmakers succeed during lockdown

1 April 2022 / Pavel Soral / Leave a Comment

Film festivals, music gigs, live venues, have all been mostly shut for the last two years due to Covid-19 administrative measures. Moving to digital has become a necessity for most artists during the last two years. Online video has been a key tool for both individual and collective arts.

At Foliovision, we are proud to be able to help artists thrive in these hard times and host their videos anywhere – from reliable digital streaming options, through protecting intellectual property from the piracy using DRM functionality, to vast variety of seamless integrations.

One of our clients Cineworx uses FV Player to help film festivals continue online on their website.

For many years, Sam Szylwin‘s company Cineworx has been running digital cinema for filmmakers, promoting independent movies in an effort to enrich the indie art scene.

Post-Covid-19 closure of film festivals, cinemas, and other venues left their mark and alternative solutions had to take place.

We began using FV Player from early 2020 until late 2021 when the world was in lockdown. Our clients came to us panicking and needed assistance with continuing the life of film festivals. Now it’s very common for film festivals to host Hybrid events and we are still utilizing FV Player for that purpose.

What was Szylwin’s experience with online video like before FV Player?

Cineworx (parent company) created/encoded digital cinema for filmmakers, distributors, and sponsored film festivals for the past 20 years. After researching over a dozen players or platforms containing players built in, we focused on Foliovision and never looked back. As providers for film and video streaming, FV Player is the only way to go for crisp, clean video transmission.

We asked Szylwin what exactly it is that he likes about FV Player and he told us there are three key elements:

What we like are advanced playback features, the built-in DRM functionality which secures our intellectual property and the way FV player integrates with WordPress, AWS and Vimeo all at the same time.

Nowadays, things are continuously getting back to normal and film festivals are back. Still, Cineworx also offers Hybrid Film Festivals across Direct to Consumer platforms on AppleTV, Amazon, Roku, Google, AndroidTV and all mobile & tablet devices.

FV Player integrates well with WP and AWS. We are still hosting virtual film festivals on our domains,” Sam told us,” We have a detailed system set up in AWS with a dozen buckets or so for different file types and levels of security. They all run through FV Player flawlessly.

Cineworx is able to securely stream their films both pre- and post-festival run. Some of their festival clients use FilmHighway.com and FV Player to stream festivals in a hybrid manner. Szylwin explains:

Some events are live and decided to also stream their films for those who are elderly or sick and cannot take the chance of catching covid.
