Hi, I hope you’re all doing ok in these weird times!
I have two problems I’m hoping you can help me with :)
I have several showcases on Vimeo. On my site I’m using FV Player Pro and adding these showcases via the shortcode-editor to create one playlist per showcase, so far so good.
First problem – The playlist doesn’t show the splash screen that I’ve chosen inside the shortcode-editor, it simply shows the thumbnail from Vimeo of the first video in the playlist.
The second problem – If I go into my showcase on Vimeo and add and/or remove some videos, these changes don’t take effect until I manually go in and re-add the Vimeo-showcase URL and save the changes.
Now, is this expected behavior or am I missing something, are there perhaps some settings that I need to toggle? Any idéas?

Hi, so the second problem solved itselft. It seems to be a delay. Is there perhaps a sync-job that runs? If so how often?

I’ve done some testing and the issue with splash screen is apparent on our side as well. I’ll contact our development team regarding this, thanks for suggestion!
I’ll contact the development team regarding the Vimeo refresh rate as well. Let’s see if there’s anything we can do about it.

Hello David,
we could let you specify a different splash screen, but then it would only be used for the first video in the playlist generated from that showcase and it would add complexity to our code.
What’s the reason for not setting the desired image in Vimeo showcase directly? Please let us know, we are trying to make sure our products fulfilly needs of our users, but at the same time not add too much complexity.
These Vimeo showcases are updated every 15 minutes.

Thanks for getting back to me! It’s quite important to me. I’m offering yoga-courses and the setup is that every showcase/playlist is a course with several single exercises. These single exercises have their own cover/thumbnail via Vimeo and can be watched individually outside of the course/playlist. I want to give each course a custom cover ie splash screen that doesn’t have any connection to any of the individual videos in the playlist, does that make sense?
So it would be awesome if either the splash-screen option worked or if you could take the thumbnail of the showcase directly from Vimeo?

Hi again Martin, I hope you’ve had a good week so far! Have you had any time to look at the splash-screen-issue yet? It’s not super-urgent but I do have quite a lot of courses to go through, so it would be awesome to have some sort of timeline or such to refer to :)

Hello David,
I see that you would like to have a custom made splash screen appearing in the player, perhaps with the name of the playlist and then the playlist thumbnails should each represent each video only.
We didn’t had a request like this before. Perhaps you could have a look at the Splash Text feature? https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/adding-title-and-splash-text#splash-text
That way you could set a single global splash screen for all the players with playlsit (but not the playlist thumbs) using CSS code and then use Splash Text to differentiate one playlist from another. Perhaps that would work for you if you would like to use a generic image.
Of course it’s something else than pulling it from Vimeo directly, but it’s something you can do even right now.

I’m using the prev/next playlist. So I don’t need any thumbnails of the other videos in the playlist to show on the page. I only want to be able to set my own splash screen for the playlist regardless of which videos are in the playlist Thanks for the suggestion about a generic splash-screen and splash-text, it would work yes, but that’s, unfortunately, very far from what I’m looking for. Every playlist should have a specific cover/splash screen. Is there any way I could target the “fp-splash”-img-class and insert my own splash screen for each playlist? (thinking out loud here) I’m not really sure why the splash screen-option doesn’t work just because the content is a Vimeo Showcase, is there a special reason? I mean since it seems to be working in every other scenario, right?

I see, since you don’t care about the playlist thumbnails it’s simple enough, so we can just do it. At least you will get what’s in the preview anyway. I will schedule this for next week.

Hello David,
sorry about that, I see that change was reverted as we refactored the code around these Vimeo showcases to work with background processing.
Please just deactivate and delete the current FV Player Pro plugin and then let wp-admin -> Settings -> FV Player reinstall the Pro pack for you, or grab a fresh ZIP file of FV Player Pro from https://foliovision.com/my-licenses and reinstall from that and the issue will be fixed.
