Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Video does not play in Firefox, Controls issue in other browsers

I updated the wordpress plugin to the recent HTML5-version and am facing issues right now:
The Video does NOT play in Firefox (neither autoplay is activated nor its deactivated)! Also no fallback here!
It does play in Chrome & IE when autoplay is activated! But there is no play button one could press! So autoplay is the only option here.
There are also no controls in all browsers!
Is there any chance to downgrade to the older version?

I did the downgrade now!
Luckily the old versions are still available here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/developers/I downgraded too, thankfully. I can’t believe they would release something with so many problems.
Adding insult to injury, I sent an email letting them know how disappointed I was with the update and how I didn’t appreciate them adding branding to then require us to pay to remove it. Which I would have done, but they should have told us before we upgraded. Anyway, I got a very rude and sarcastic message in return that basically told me to stop bitching and to wipe my tears and downgrade if I wasn’t happy.
I couldn’t believe how rude and absolutely disrespectful the email was. They certainly won’t be getting any of my money or business in the future.
Hi Nize,
I’m sorry you are having issues with FV Flowplayer 5. If you could send us a sample page we’d be happy to take a look.
If you’d like to revert to the most recent version, you can download it here.
For your future reference, all previous versions of all WordPress plugins are available under the Developer tab.
Making the web work for you, Alec
Hello Nize,
you mentioned there is no play button – could you please check if you are not using white background? Just try to change the “canvas” color in Settings –> FV WordPress Flowplayer to black and see if that helps.
The problem is that the new Flowplayer icon is white and so it’s not visible on white background.
We haven’t noticed any issues with Firefox or with missing controls.
Thanks,
MartinHi Nize,
I have trouble believing that nothing happened when you changed the canvas background. Moreover, the player does work in Firefox. It looks like there is an issue with your videos or with your install.
If you would like to contact us privately we would be happy to test FV Flowplayer 5 on your servers.
Hello Dmitry,
could you please be more specific about the issues in FireFox on Mac? What plugin version are you using?
Could you please paste in the exact warning from IE? What version are you using? There might be some error in some other JavaScript which is only fatal to IE.
If you need to get this resolved quickly and right on your site, we are happy to help, just order our pro support.
Thanks,
MartinHello Martin,
Firefox 26.0 on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) – basically video starts to play (autoplay), plays for 15 to 30 seconds, then fades to player background. Sometimes video progress continues, sometimes shutters, sometimes stops.
Mp4 video encoded with you provisions for best encoding.
IE doesn’t bother me. As my website isn’t showing on it correctly at all – and I don’t care about it ;). Users of IE not a targeted audience at all ;). Just wanted to share about it. If you will need details I’ll try to replicate.
Actually found this plugin most cross “browserable”. Grate job! Thanks for fast reply!
Hello Dmitry,
your issue with playback in Firefox on Mac is very strange. Have you tried clearing the browser cache? Have you tried adding engine=”flash” to the shortcode to see if forcing flash will help the issue (remember to remove it afterwards as browsers benefit from HTML5 playback)? Are you getting the same issue with video on our homepage? http://foliovision.com
Thanks,
MartinHello Martin,
I fully agree that it is strange! Very!
Same issue with your homepage.
engine=”flash”, nor engine=flash either engine=’flash’ didn’t force player to flash. Or maybe it’s wrong to expect flash dialog window by clicking with right button? Anyway, no one of this lines didn’t fix the issue.
PS: Asked few of my friends on windows to check page on IE – all good ;)
Hello Dmitry,
you need to check the browser’s web developer tools to check if there is an object or video tag during the playback.
The Safari issue is strange. Can you check if it still happens after restarting your computer? I have version 7.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.9.1 and it sometimes crashes on some random website for no reason and then refuses to start again unless I restart.
We just released FV Flowplayer 2.1.51 with updated core, perhaps that will help.
Thanks,
MartinHello Dmitry,
that’s a weird error, could you please:
1) Post your shortcode here
2) Does your page seem to be slow to load?
3) Check if you are using any Flash blocker (Firefox addon)
4) Check for any JavaScript errors (guide)I assume you are still on Firefox 26.0 on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63).
Thanks,
MartinHello Martin!
Thanks for attention and help. Don’t know why people said the support is bad. It’s good! Even I’m not a paid user!
Apparently these were issues with Adobe Flash Player (looks like it was corrupted after fixing permissions). Reinstalled it from scratch yesterday – and woalya – all works! All the problems are gone!
Safari acting weird, but much better after reinstalling Flash Player. And changing thermal paste in mbp… Need to do it more often. (Video card were overheating a lot)
Thanks again one more time.
