Playlist + secure Amazon S3 issue

[Solved]

    Hi FV team,

First off great plugin and awesome support. Please keep up the good work.

I’m experimenting some random issue that seems to happen only on MacOSx + Firefox.

Basically, it often throws the following message when a video from the playlist start to play:

    “Flash: Video File not found”

See screenshot here: [link was deleted]

When I refresh the page and that I click on that same video on the playlist, it plays properly. However this is very annoying. Only happens on MacOS + Firefox. I tried it on Windows + Firefox, no issue at all.

Also, what I don’t get…the error message mentions “Flash”. Isn’t supposed to be loaded with HTML5 ?

    Here my setup:
    ===============
    MacOS 10.9.3 Mavericks
    Firefox 29.0.1
fv player 3.9.1 (S3 secure link enable + playlist enable + buffering disable + Prefer Flash player by default disable)

My friend also has a Mac and he tried it on Firefox. Same issue. I can’t figure out what’s causing that.

    please help, thank you!

    Hello Purelife,

thank you for using our plugin!

Does this happen if you watch the first video until the end? Or does this happen if you open the website, wait for a few minutes and then do it? Are you using a cache plugin?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    hello Martin,

    1. Yes I’m using the W3 cache wordpress plugin
    2. It happens right after I click on the playlist thumbnail

    Hello Purelife,

our Amazon S3 secure content works best for membership sites where logged in users don’t get cached versions.

With your current setup it can easily happen that the video link times out in 15 minutes and the cached HTML is 15 minutes old.

We plan to support this better in our Pro extension – FV Player Pro.

You can try to set the default expiry time to a higher value and see if that helps. We detect the video length and use its length value as expire time, so it might be better to use the fv_flowplayer_amazon_expires WP filter in the PHP code and put your longer value in seconds there – let’s say twice as much as your cache timeout.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    thanks for your reply Martin.

    1. I actually already went from 15 minutes to 30 minutes expiration. Maybe I should try something higher?

    2. Excited about the Pro version. When is it going to be available ?

    Hi Purelife,

The pro version is available now. Give it a try.

What you would like here is to make the video cache times longer than the page cache times. You can also shorten your cache times with little harm done in terms of server load on a reasonable sized site.

    Hello Purelife,

we released version 2.2.16, which added a setting which will force your Amazon S3 link expiration time to all videos (Amazon S3 Protected Content -> Force the default expiration time).

    Thanks,
    Martin
