AWS Transcoding Pricing

I have a question in regards to the pricing for encoding videos through AWS to have encrypted HLS secure video content.

I am also referencing the following link from your site: https://foliovision.com/player/securing-your-video/mediaconvert-elastic-transcoder-pricing

If I have hundreds of videos that I want to be encoded for HLS encryption, would that be a one-time cost to encrypt those videos? Or is this the price for each video view that is HLS encrypted through a site?

I’m trying to understand the costs I should expect on a monthly bases if I use FV Player Pro for my site.

Hi Michel,

The encrypting for both ElasticTranscoder and MediaConvert is a one-time payment. Only thing that you’ll need to pay afterwards is for a hosting on Amazon S3 cloud.

Also we recommend MediaConvert over ElasticTranscoder for our clients since it supports all the new video standards and it’s slightly easier to use.

Are there any plans for updating the documentation guide for MediaConvert (https://foliovision.com/player/securing-your-video/mediaconvert-encrypted-hls-guide) to include setting up Cloudfront Distribution as seen in the ElasticTranscoder documentation guide?

Hi Michel,

Both S3 and CloudFront has it’s own in-depth documentation pages. You can find S3 here and CloudFront here but maybe we should link these guides together to make it more clear for users with no experience with AWS services. Thanks for pointing that out!
