Hi Foliovision Team,
I just had a guitar student on my site ask if I’d ever considered adding Chromecast to the video player here at http://countryguitaronline.com. I’ve used Chromecast to cast HBO Go from my iPad to my TV and it was pretty handy. Might be a cool feature to add to the FV Player…easier to watch guitar lesson videos on a full screen TV. Is that something you’d add to the video player itself? Or maybe another WordPress plugin could detect video and offer a Chromecast option?

Hi Devin,
We are currently working on upgrading the core of our player to Flowplayer 7 technology and it should bring support for Chromecast and Apple TV, but it’s a long run and it probably won’t be done until this fall. We’ll definitely announce it o our blog, though.

I’m wondering if the Chromecast feature in FlowPlayer 7 will work with the Vimeo hosting option without referencing the direct links to the .mp4 files in the page source code. It seems like the default Chromecast receiver app is looking for a specific file type which could only be obtained by linking to the unprotected .mp4 hosted on Vimeo. This would work fine but would negate the domain level privacy setting.
Wondering if I might be required to use Bunny CDN or similar with url
authentication to implement the casting feature without exposure to easy hotlinking?

I did some research on this today, but I wasn’t able to find an answer. We haven’t tested the Chromecast physically yet, but we will probably do so in the near future, so I’ll let you know what we find out.

Yesterday I received the message about the black Friday sale and the roll out of new features. It mentioned that “FV Player core 7 is in beta already along with a new player interface…”
If I purchase Pro today, will I be able to access the core 7 beta features immediately using the dropdown setting in Pro? If so, is the Chromecast feature a part of the core 7 code where I can test it out with my devices?

Some of them. It’s very beta. Do not put it into production please.

It should be but it hasn’t been tested yet.

Hello David,
FV Player 7 supports Chromecast (MP4, HLS). FV Player Pro 7.2.3.727.beta supports Chromecast also for Vimeo videos.

Chromecast does work only on desktop and Android devices. We’re currently working on support for iOS devices. We’ll keep you posted.

We’ve done testing and unfortunately it looks like we won’t be able to implement Chromecast support for iOS. As it turned out Google is limiting Chromecast on iOS to work only with their own 3rd party apps(like Youtbe etc.).
There’s probably now way for us to implement this at this moment. We’ll wait and closely watch all info from Google about Chromecast.
We’ll keep you posted if anything new appears.
