Video security on elearning website

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Video security on elearning website

  • Adams 7 years, 2 months ago

Hi, I am interested in thr FV player Pro but I have a couple of questions before I buy it. I am currently building an elearning website based on WordPress. As you already knows, video security is a big concern. So far my only conern is to make sure my videos will not be downloadable with Firefox addons such as Video DownloadHelper.
It seems like encrypted HLS provides such a level of security.
I will porbably use Vimeo Pro to host my videos and I think they provide encrypted HLS. And your FV player provides watermarking. So my question is simple.

Does FV Player Pro provides HLS encryption via Vimeo Pro for all platforms (IOS,Android and desktop computers) ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

    Hi Adams,

I did a quick research on whether Vimeo Pro provides encrypted streams and I was not able to find anything about it. The only mention I found was that they provide DRM for some enterprise accounts, but no details on that. Do you have source I could check?

FV Player Pro can integrate encrypted HLS hosted on Amazon S3 and delivered through CloudFront. These streams are handled either by HLS.js on desktops, or Flash engine. Android and iOS supports the format by default.

You can read more details about HLS in our guide Using HLS With FV Player and check how to create an encrypted HLS stream in AWS in our guide How to setup encrypted HLS stream with Amazon Elastic Transcoder.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,

Thanks. I thought Vimeo Pro supports encrypted HLS but it seems like they only support standard HLS. I have did some pricing simulations with Amazon S3 + Cloudfront + Elastic Transcoder yesterday. And I think I will choose them over Vimeo Pro for both price and security reasons.

    Thanks.

    Hi Adams,

Setting up the encrypted streams via AWS can be a bit tricky, but you should be able to set it up following our guides. If you run into trouble, let us know here in the forum.

    Thanks,

    Hi Eduard,

Thanks, I have read the guide multiple times already. It’s pretty easy to set up.

By the way, here is the response from Vimeo support :

Thanks for getting in touch! We use HLS in several situations, where adaptive streaming (DASH playback) is not supported:
    -iOS
    -Roku
-Older versions of the Vimeo video player

We don’t currently support AES-128 encryption, but our developers do have DRM on their roadmap for the future. I’m making note of your email as a feature request, and will pass it along to our team.

    Hi,

I have a new question regarding FV Player. Is there any way to have the full-screen button in the control bar (bottom right) instrad of the top right position ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

    Hi Adams,

Although this is not possible right now, you can hide the fullscreen button completely and let your users use the “f” key shortcut for opening the fullscreen mode (list of keyboard shortcuts can be found in this guide.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi,

I think I’m going to install the free version of the player and play a little bit with the CSS and other files to see how the player can be customize. I’m trying to have something clean like the Brightcove player.

    Hi Adams,

Trying out the free player at first is a good idea. You can check our guide CSS Tips and Fixes – there are some adjustments you might find helpful.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Thanks.

So I have been playing with the CSS these past days and I have a problem. As you can see in the picture attached, I have moved the timeline bar and its width is set to 100%, but for some reasons, I can not get it to start at the absolute left side. If I use the “left” css tag to move it to the left (for instance ” left: -72px: “) it also move the minimized control bar when the cursor is not active.

Do you have any idea how I can move the timeline to the left without affecting the minimized control bar please ?

    Thanks in advance.

    I solved it…

Hi there… So I have been looking for a way to keep videos from being downloaded and at this point I am still searching…. Encrypted HLS is not secure. I can download both videos in the demo page located here :

    https://foliovision.com/player/demos/encrypted-hls-stream

Here are two examples that I have not been able to download (yet):

    https://support.theoplayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/206766939-AES-128-Content-Protection

    https://billz.vooplayer.com/publish/NDQxMzI=

I have not figured out how they did that… I dont know if they used DRM or not….but all I know is that these two are secured enough for my need….

Any ideas about how to keep videos from being downloaded without going the expensive DRM road ?

    Hi Adams!

Thanks for your report. We will have a look at it.

Unfortunately no video online is completely safe from download. DRM has many options you can start as simple as DRM text in case of screen capture.

    Hello Adams,

downloading a video is one thing, but getting it to play is something else. Are you sure you could play our video streams after downloading?

The video on https://support.theoplayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/206766939-AES-128-Content-Protection is encrypted, but the decryption keys are just plain files, so I was able to download and play that one very quickly.

With https://s3vooplayer-5273.kxcdn.com/vooplayerv4/100011/5a8ddc5136339170058678playlist-1080-e.m3u8 it’s slightly more difficult, as the tool I was using doesn’t see to be able to load some segment.

    Thanks,
    Martin
