Hi Martin and many thanks for the response. I tested again and realise that the Rewind/Forward buttons are not available once the Live Stream box is ticked. But if I leave the box unchecked, even if I’m streaming live, the Rewind/Forward buttons appear in the player and works the way it should. See attached.
The second issue is Chromecast. It’s not working even after enabling it in Setup > Sitewide FV Player Defaults.
Regards
Hello commerz81,
please let us know if using that “DVR stream” checkbox with FV Player 7.5.29 helped or not.
I did not experience issues with Chromecast on live streams, you can try here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/hls-stream -> Live Stream
Please try posting a bare MP4 file such as https://cdn.foliovision.com/video/foliovision.mp4 and see if you can Chromecast that.
Thanks,
MartinI just upgraded to FV Player 7.5.29 but still, the Chromecast button is not showing up. None of the streams here have Chromecast enabled so I’m not sure why you want me to check them: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/hls-stream
Please note that I have used Chromecast before with FV Player but suddenly the button stops showing up.
Hello commerz81,
the latest release of FV Player – the version 7.5.29 – will show the back/forward seeking buttons on controlbar for live streams which have the “DVR stream” option in the editor enabled.
It did not change anything regarding Chromecast. In our testing Chromecast worked well on https://foliovision.com/player/demos/hls-stream -> Live Stream
If you are not getting it even for a bare MP4 file such as https://cdn.foliovision.com/video/foliovision.mp4 then something might be wrong with your Chromecast setup. Please let us know which page on your website we can use for a test.
Thanks,
MartinHi Martin,
I tested with an MP4 stream and still no Chromecast button (http://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/gtv-videos-bucket/sample/VolkswagenGTIReview.mp4)
These are the URLs of both streams (MP4 and HLS .m3u8) on my website:
MP4 – https://veva-media.com/title/12/
HLS – https://veva-media.com/title/123/Thanks
Hello Dave,
I tested casting both of your videos from an Android device and a desktop Chrome browser. Everything worked just fine for me.
Please, make sure you are connected to the same network as the Chromecast device and that you are exclusively using Chrome browser when trying to cast.
Thanks,
MariaHi Maria,
Your comment left me scratching my head. Anyone that plays the video link I shared will realize that Chromecast is not available. I’ve made a screenshot of both streams. See attached pls.
Hello Commerz,
I’m really not sure why it works just fine for me, but I tried several times on two devices. Are you looking for the icon to be always present (as YouTube does it)? The icon only really shows up once there’s a Chromecast device detected on the same network.
Also, sadly iOS devices are not supported for Chromecast yet, simply because iOS doesn’t support casing from Chrome browser app yet. For iOS devices, you can use AirPlay instead.
I’m sorry for asking, but trust me this happens even to the best – are you sure the Chromecast is connected to the same network as the casting device? Also, don’t forget to use only Chrome browser. To go over the whole checklist, our guide may help you: https://foliovision.com/player/casting/chromecast
Thanks,
MariaHello Dave,
We’ve received this request from someone else early this month. We’ve discussed it and our Creative Director Alec Kinnear, has decided against the addition.
He argued that:
” Chromecast users are accustomed to Chromecast being offered only when it is available. If Chromecast is always available, we have to set up failure notifications for why it’s not working across all devices and ask people to “Attach or set up a Chromecast device”. This will push many of our publishers into a lot of extra support for why Chromecast is not working. We could of course just say “No Chromecast available” but then many users will ask why we are showing Chromecast in the first place.
It’s not an easy call. It’s much better for us to follow convention and do what Chromecast normally does in other players and applications, to follow expectations. There are times for innovation (playlist style for example, or improvements to video uploading like our FV Coconut which to be honest should revolutionise self-hosted high quality video publishing) and there are times to follow convention (mostly when working with other people’s API’s) like this.”
That being said, as YouTube started showing the icon all the time now and we’ve gotten this request for the second time within a month, this decision may just be reconsidered. I’ll let the team know there are more users looking for this change.
Thanks,
Maria
