Instead of videos I can see a pdf hosted on S3?

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Instead of videos I can see a pdf hosted on S3?

  • Is ther a plugin similar to FVplayer with which we view PDF’s hosted on S3? 3 years, 11 months ago

I am using the FVplayer plugin and works fine with the videos, but besides the video on some links I have to open pdf’s also hosted on S3. is there a plugin that does this or a way to modify this plugin to work with pdf’s?

    Hello,

    thank you for your question!

FV Player is not built to do that. It is solely a video/audio player. Neither do we offer a different plugin with such functionality.

It is quite an out of line request, but I will ask our development team whether they are willing to undertake this request as a paid custom development.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello,

alternatively, while FV Player cannot open PDF files, the video download feature will let your users download such files. To learn more about how to use it and how to customize the download button, follow this guide: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/video-downloading-with-simple-history

Just create a fvplayer instance with a pdf file instead of a video file and put the id of that player to the shortcode.

Is this solution satisfactory enough, or are you looking for a pdf reader plugin?

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello,

my suggestion would be to not put the PDF files in as video files, but just use the [fvplayer_download] shortcode like this:

    [fvplayer_download src="https://your-s3.amazon.com/your-file.pdf"]

That way you get a working link with some extra download protection annd logging, but your FV Player video database wouldn’t be cluttered by the PDF links.

    Thanks,
    Martin
