Closed Captions Button

[Solved]

Is it possible to toggle closed captions on/off rather than them (currently) just being on? I see the CC button is included in the controls.png. How does one implement captions control?

    Thanks

    Hello gbowman,

unfortunately this is currently a limitation of core Flowplayer. However the new version of core Flowplayer (version 6) should have this fixed. It will just take some time.

Adding a simple closed captions on/off button shouldn’t be so hard. You can just use jQuery toggle on the .fp-subtitles element.

If you need this feature for your work, we’d be happy to work with you on implementing it, so let us know and we will contact you about details.

    Thanks,
    Martin

About a year back, I was asking about being able to turn captions (subtitles) on and off. It was suggested that was “in the brew”. Is there a way that the user can toggle captions on/off. Any solutions would be very handy, as our organization supports those with special needs and we have many visually challenged users.

    Thanks

    Hello gbowman,

Flowplayer 6 should be out really soon, so once it’s out we will update our plugin to it and you should be able to switch the subtitles on and off.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin

Any updates on toggling captions on and off. My bosses are getting a bit cranky that this feature is not yet implemented on our site. (We are about special needs and access so no captions is a big problem. The bosses are asking about using a different player, but i am trying to stall and stay with your player)

    Thanks

Toggling captions will be very soon, Gary. We are just over the hump of the Flowplayer 6 core public release and will be able to roll out the new features now available in core fairly quickly.

    Hello Gary,

please check our subtitles demo here: https://foliovision.com/player/demos/subtitles

There is a button to turn subtitles on and off at the right side of the control bar.

We must work on allowing you to add multiple language subtitles, but the basic on/off works.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin

That’s great news. We are getting ready to launch a new website and captions would be a big plus! Is this player available now. Do I upgrade the player and pro part to the latest and we are good to go?

    Cheers

    Gary

yes, FV Flowplayer 6 is out: https://foliovision.com/2015/08/fv-flowplayer-6-released

Just make sure your license is active when you upgrade, if you need to Pro features like Vimeo, YouTube, lightbox or quality switching.

    Hello

I have upgraded both the FV wordpress player and Player Pro (versions 6.0.3.8 and 0.5.7) The player show the control to toggle captions on and off, but no captions show. I have tried both .srt and .vtt files with no luck. Is there some secret to getting this to run?

    Thanks
    Gary

    Hi Martin

I have the captions working but wanted to know how/where do I change the text on the caption toggle. “No subtitles” makes sense, but I think some might be confused with “Default (en)”. I would like to change that.

    Thanks

    Hello Gary,

please post your answers here so that I don’t have to repost it from email. You can post without logging in, just use your email address.

We need to improve this, in the meantime you can fix it in the code: https://foliovision.com/support/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/troubleshooting/how-to-change-subtitle-font-size/#post-19967

    Thanks,
    Martin
