    Hi
Is there a way to automatically generate thumbnails from self-hosted videos with flowplayer?
    Thanks

    Hello Ren and Kevin,

we decided to work on this, but I can’t promise an exact ETA.

    Hi Kevin and Ren,

Are you referring with “thumbnail” to splash screens for your videos or are you referring to the timeline thumbnails which appear on YouTube videos when you run your cursor across the timeline in a desktop web browser?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!

I am referring to thumbnail as splash screen.

    Hello,

How is it possible that player isn’t automatically showing some random frame from the video that is self-hosted? Am I missing that option?

    Thanks.

    Hello Mike,

You are not missing anything – we are currently working on implementing this feature. We’ll let you know when it’s available.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

Hey, I would like to say that this feature is actually kind of important :)
I came to this topic in exact same reason

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your interest in this, we’ll try to move this in our list of priorities, but we are now working on a core update, so it will have to wait a week or two.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Daniel,

We’re not less interested in this but it’s coming after the core update and after the playlists rewrite feature (as where it will be really useful is in advanced playlists). Uploading single images for single videos isn’t that big a deal (and I even recommend it – automated splashscreens generally are not very compelling).

    Thanks.

Do you have a timeline on this? Auto splash images would be a big time saver for us. We are using FVPlayer to play MP4s in instead of GIFs. It’s saving us a ton of bandwidth and page speed but creation of images is a pain when you may be dealing with 5-10 on a post.

BTW, I just did some CSS stuff to hide enough of the video UI to make it look like a simple GIF on/off thing. “GIF mode” might be a nice option… I know more and more people are moving from GIF to video so it could be a selling point.

An auto splash image generator that could grab the first frame of the video would be ideal in this situation to sell it as a start of a gif.

    Thanks!

    Hi glark,

Thank you for adding your request for this feature. As I said earlier, we are still testing the core update, so we will start to work on this probably in January at the earliest.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

I am also interested in this function and I’ve come across this topic.
I understand it might not be the top priority but it’s been 2 years.
    Is this function available?

    Hello Antionio,

We’ve already implemented this feature as Thumbnail generator.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Making the web work for you,
    Juraj
