    Hi Friends,
    Firstly thanks a lot for your precious time and support, I really appreciate it.
    I know you’re extremely busy, and I am really grateful to you for reading this message.
    I hope everything is good and you’re doing all fine there. :)

    I am using your excellent, non-invasive and extremely user friendly plugin for my meta TITLES and meta DESCRIPTIONS.

    Although my website is recently opened to Google search, (a little more than 3 weeks) , I encountered a little issue with my meta descriptions. You can see the difference by exploring two images I’ve attached to this email ; I’ve attached both Google Search screenshot and the one from WP Dashboard. You can easily see the difference.

    WP Dashboard View:

    Google Seacrh View:

    Am I missing something?
    It seems the “description” includes only a part of it on the search results.
    (By the way, the “bug” also happens when I respect the max. character threshold for the Desc.)

    Permalink Structure is set to: Post Name

    I don’t use numerous plugins, I don’t even use Akismet.
    I only use VAULTPRESS backup and Mailchimp.

    What could be the reason?
    Please kindly let me know about what can I do to further investigate this issue.
    Please excuse my English Grammar Mistakes, even it can’t be an excuse, it’s not my mother tongue.
    Thank you very much for all, friends.
    Wish you the very best,
    Kind Regards,
    Bedros

    Hi Bedos,

    Google (and Yahoo/Bing) only allow the first 143 odd characters thus in our SERP preview we cut off the metadescription approximately where they would.

    I suggest you shorten your metadescriptions still further.

    Cordial regards,

    Alec

    Hi Alec, thanks very much for your prompt response ; Grateful for that.
    I’ve just tried with another one.
    What do you think?
    The one I have posted was below the threshold “143”.

    Hi Bedros,

    Google is not obliged to use the metadescription. They often do but go back and forth between using it and generating their own. Have you checked your source code to make sure the metadescription is turning up in your theme?

    bedros 12 years ago

    Alec, thanks for fast response.
    I’ve just checked my meta descriptions from the source and they’re all looking fine.

    By the way, the items screenshots I’ve posted above was from “portfolio” Items, and I was added the code below to be able to add “Desc.” and “Title” customization ability to Portfolio Items too ; as you know FV Simpler SEO doesn’t support PortfolioItems by default: (added to “functions.php”)

    add_action('admin_menu', 'yoursite_your_custom_pos_type_meta_box');
    function yoursite_your_custom_pos_type_meta_box() {
    global $fvseo;
    if( is_a( $fvseo, 'FV_Simpler_SEO_Pack' ) ){
    add_meta_box('fvsimplerseopack',__('FV Simpler SEO', 'fv_seo'),
    'fvseo_meta', 'portfolio');
    }
    }

    But just letting you know, the same situation is also valid for all sections of the website, including Blog Posts (but again, at the source code all look fine.).

    Thanks for all your efforts to help me Alec,
    what do you think about this matter?
    Kind Regards,
    Bedros

    Thanks for the code Bedros!

    If your metadescriptions are in source, there’s not much more you can do. Google controls their algorithm. Apparently they take the metadescription more often when it matches the incoming query. You could look at what those pages rank for, if anything (harder now that referrers are encrypted).

    Thanks Alec, please forgive me because a weird question is on its way :)

    If the descriptions are fine in the “view source” ; then does it mean that everything is fine on my and (FV Simpler SEO’s) side ?

    Yes! Keep those meta descriptions pithy. Don’t use maximum characters but more like 130 or less.

    Ok Alec,
    Thanks for your patience ; I really appreciate it.
    Wish you the very best.
    Kind Regards,
    Bedros
