You were right! I would never have figured that out for myself.
I have added:
AddType image/svg+xml svg svgz
AddEncoding gzip svgz
to the server apache/conf/httpd.conf file and the problem has resolved.

I think I know what the problem is now. The WordPress core media player loads last and overrides the Flowplayer player. Is there a way to turn off the WordPress player or load Flowplayer last?
I have just installed the free version of your flowplayer plugin on another site and tested it. The same problem occurs. Perhaps you can have a look?
When I posted just the audio file, the audio player skin was different, and the buttons worked. Once I posted a video and an audio file on the same page, the audio player skin changed and the buttons disappeared.
The plugins on the site richalmers.com are completely different to those on Britlish.com.
