Your last suggestion worked. Loads faster too so good option. Probably the problem lies with my theme honestly…it is a pretty fat theme…

Yes those boxes are checked. Like I said there are empy rectangles present where the icons should be, and said rectangles do function as they should, but no actual icon is visible.
Also, on Safari browsers, the icons that appear are strange emojis…..
