Notifying author or editor about comments held in moderation

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Thoughtful Comments › Requests and Feedback › Notifying author or editor about comments held in moderation

  • James 10 years, 1 month ago

    It would be great if there were a setting to make it so an editor or the post author were notified of a comment held in moderation, rather than just the administrator, as WP is set up.

    Is it possible to change the plugin to do this? Thank you.

    Hi James,

    I love your suggestion. Making WordPress better. As you know the workaround is for the editor/author to comment on his/her post to pick up a subscription but your idea is much better.

    Thank you so much!

    Have a great weekend.

    Thanks. Do you know of any way to change the notification process so that comment moderation notices can be sent to editors, for example?

    Martin 10 years ago

    Hello James,

    we will add this to FV Thoughtful Comments plugin, as we think it’s a useful feature. We will test the default WordPress behavior before doing so.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello James,

    we checked what’s in core WordPress code and the post author if already notified of pending comments on his posts.

    If you would like to notify all your editors of new pending comments, then you can simply append their email addresses to the comment_moderation_recipients filter.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    I tried this, and it doesn’t seem to work. Any suggestions?

    // Send email to Lauren when comment submitted
    function myCommentEmailFilter($comment_moderation_recipients){
    if ($comment_moderation_recipients) {
    $to = ‘ht1@dcn.org’;
    $subject = ‘Comment submitted to CalStage.org website’;
    $message = ‘A comment has been submitted that may require your attention. Log in at http://www.calstage.org/wp-login.php and click on Comments to see it.’;

    wp_mail( $to, $subject, $message );
    }
    }

    add_filter(‘comment_moderation_recipients’, ‘myCommentEmailFilter’);

    Hello James,

    $comment_moderation_recipients is an array of recipients, so just add to it. You also forgot to specify the return value of the function.

    You can find a lot of tutorials for WordPress filters (the above filter is in core WP, not our plugin), here’s one I found quickly: https://pippinsplugins.com/a-quick-introduction-to-using-filters/

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Okay, thanks. This is what I have now, still not getting the extra email. Can you see anything I’m doing wrong?

    function calstage_comment_moderation_recipients($emails) {

    $extra_emails = array(
    ‘ji@humortimes.com’,
    );

    // combine the two arrays
    $emails = array_merge($extra_emails, $emails);

    return $emails;
    }
    add_filter(‘comment_moderation_recipients’, ‘calstage_comment_moderation_recipients’);

    In the reference at https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/hooks/comment_moderation_recipients/, it shows:

    apply_filters ( ‘comment_moderation_recipients’, array $emails, int $comment_id )

    … am I supposed to include that “int $comment_id” somehow? The link you gave me does not talk about such added variables. I can’t find anything on it.
