FV Player not working on Opera, FireFox and Chrome Browsers

[Solved]

  • rodarby 7 years, 2 months ago

I installed FV on my website and am using an MP4 video uploaded to my WordPress video library. The video plays back on the MS Edge browser fine. But it won’t play at all (just audio plays) on Chrome, Waterfox (variant of Firefox) and Opera. I suspect it might be an issue with browser plugins, but can’t find anything on the other support forums for these browsers mentioning this problem. I initially posted this on the WordPress support site for FV Player and a FolioVison rep indicated that playback was fine with a couple of browsers on his computer. However, I am now getting complaints from other people having the same problems, so it is not confined to my computer. Any ideas?

    Hello rodarby,

I tested your video on one of our test sites and you are right, it only played in Microsoft Edge. The Video Checker reported no obvious issues, yet when I re-encoded the video in Handbrake following our encoding guide, it suddenly started to work in Chrome.

The difference between the two videos was that your original video was in ISO media format (MPEG-4 Part 12) and the re-encoded video was in mp4 (MPEG-4 Part 14), yet our video checker did not detect it as an issue, so this is something we will improve.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

Thank you Eduard. I did as you described, running my vids through Handbrake, encoding them in H.264 (Intel QSV) and they now work. Live and learn. -R
