Need help debugging quality switching

[Solved]

  • Calvin 5 years, 3 months ago

    Greetings,
I am using FV Player Pro and amazon s3. I have had no problems in the past creating players that embed a single video. But I am having trouble getting quality switching to work.

See attached image file for my quality settings. My two levels are -0360p and -0720p

I’ve uploaded the files to amazon s3 and made sure their mime types are set to be video files.

See images “video tab” and “options tab” to see how my player is configured. I have video switching enabled.

When I publish the post and click the play button. The video has no problem playing at the 0360p version. But when I try to switch to the 0720p version, it does not seem to change. The check mark briefly appars beside 0720p but them immediately switches back to the 0360p version.

I do get a video issues message saying
“The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided. Check your key and signing method. ”
That is strange to me because it is able to play the video no problem.

Any guidance/suggestions on how to debug this and get quality switching to work would be appreciated.

I changed to player to start with the 0720p and that plays no problem but it has the same problem in terms of switching quality levels.

    Hello Calvin,

it seems the signature is only calculated once and then used for all the video qualities. That is incorrect of course.

We will get it fixed to calculate a new signature for each video quality.

This issue didn’t occur to use as we use the S3 Ajax option: https://foliovision.com/2017/04/download-link-with-simple-history-tracking#amazon-s3-ajax

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Calvin,

FV Player Pro Beta 7.4.13.727 is out and it fixes thase bad AWS S3 signatures for different video qualities with MP4.

If you don’t see the update available, please make sure you are on the Beta version: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta

If your WordPress didn’t find the update yet, you can download it by hand from https://foliovision.com/my-licenses

    Thanks,
    Martin

thank you! That fix worked and I can now switch back and forth between the different media quality settings no problem!

So one further question. Do you recommend I turn on Ajax support?

    Hello Calvin,

it does increase the video protection.

On the other hand if you get hundreds of video plays every minute you should be double checking that your website doesn’t slow down, as these Ajax request are not cached.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Thanks for explaining the trade offs. My site is very low traffic so I will turn on ajax. I want as much protection for my videos as possible. I only want them playable on my website.
