Google defines session as “…the period of time a user is actively engaged with your website, app, etc.” I see sessions roughly equaling my number of events. A single video view can represent multiple events. How should I be interpreting sessions?

Exactly, as you mentioned. Session are interpreting a period of time user is active on your website.
Single video view can represent many events(video start, quartiles etc.) and that’s the reason why those numbers are not matching.
However, thanks for insights! We’ll check the way how Google Analytics is screening sessions with FV Player videos.
