Encrypted HLS from AWS S3 without Cloudfront – “Please check Your Cryptic Key”

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Encrypted HLS from AWS S3 without Cloudfront – “Please check Your Cryptic Key”

  • John 4 years ago

    Hi,

I’ve followed the guide at https://foliovision.com/player/securing-your-video/mediaconvert-encrypted-hls-guide but can’t get the resulting video to stream – I keep getting a popup with “Please check Your Cryptic Key” when I click the Decrypt button inside the FV player plugin when adding and testing the video stream.

The AWS MediaConvert job ran fine and I can download the .m3u8 file from S3 without signing in, so permissions are not an issue.
I’ve copied/pasted the Static key value from the AWS Job Details into the “Encrypted HLS” field of the FV player, and followed the guide for the format of the URL (my filename has spaces in it though, so I’m wondering if this isn’t perhaps a problem).

I’m not using CloudFront, but the guide implies in Step 21 that this is fine as long as the S3 folder is made public, which mine is (and can be accessed in a private mode browser window).

So I’m now stuck and am not sure how to progress past the ‘Please check your Cryptic Key’ error message. Some assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi John,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

If the name of your input file has spaces in it, it shouldn’t be a problem, as long as the URL format is correct. The Decrypt button is meant to be used for decrypting an Output Key (which is a different kind of key) from AWS Elastic Transcoder job, not for the Static key value of MediaConvert.

What happens when you hit the Insert button and try to play the stream on your website?

If it doesn’t play and shows errors, could you please send us a report via our built-in video checker? The way the video checker works is that you need to come in as admin and open the video checker and send us a report about the video. It works on desktops.

It would also help if you could use the built-in video checker, take a screenshot of the report and post it here.

    Thanks,
    Chiara

    Hello John,

in the next FV Player Pro release these fields will only show for users who are using Elastic Transcoder. That will prevent the confusion and make the interface simpler.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi John,

Have you been able to get past the error message and insert the stream to your website in the end?

Let us know about your progress, or if there’s anything else we can help you with.

    Thanks,
    Chiara
