Built-in Video Checker reporting video issue

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Built-in Video Checker reporting video issue

    Hi Support,

We’re always looking for ways to improve our streaming! The built-in video checker is reporting issues on all our video content which is encoded to HLS.

The error is reading “crossdomain.xml not found – won’t play in desktops browsers”

Can you assist us in correcting this matter?

    Cheers,

    Michael Maponga

    Hi Michael,

The cross-domain policy is used for allowing browsers to play content in Flash engine. It is not such a problem if you are using HLS.js, but before this library was available, the only way to play HLS on desktop was available through Flash only.

We have a guide on HLS streaming that explains these terms and also will help you to fix this – Using HLS With FV Player.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,

Excellent, current we only use HLS formatted files on the player but do you also suggest having MP4, and WEBM as fallback formats?

    Hi Michael,

If you set HLS correctly with CORS and cross-domain license, you should be covered on all platforms. You even don’t have to worry about encoding issues with various h264 profiles that emerge in some browsers from time to time.

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hello Michael,

FV Player uses HLS.js and Flash HLS to play HLS streams on devices which normally don’t support it – means all the desktop computes with exception of Safari on mac OS X computers.

However HLS.js is not compatible with IE below version 11 for example, which is still used by 2% of users: https://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=2&qpcustomd=0 Out of that 1% is IE 9-10 which would play MP4 even without Flash.

It also seems 1% of users are using Firefox 40.0 which also won’t work with HLS.js.

So these users will need Flash to be able to play with Flowplayer Flash HLS engine.

There are also issues with HLS playback on old built-in browsers on Android 4, like old Samsung Galaxy phones.

So providing a MP4 or a WebM video really won’t help much.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Thank you Eduard and Martin! May I pay for Pro Support to get our crossdomain xml file and CORS updated for streaming?

    Thanks
