Mobile Play Button Style & Quality Switching Question

[Solved]

    Hi foliovision team,

Still enjoying the player…and just recently discovered the playlist feature. Just added it to my latest guitar lesson. Very cool feature.

Anyways, couple of quick questions for you:

    1) See attached screenshot from my iPhone 5…I noticed there’re two play buttons. Is there a way to hide the small one?

    2) Under FV Player Settings > Vimeo (Pro) hosting…when you select “Enable quality switching”…is there any way you could add a sub-option where we could select a default quality we’d like the player to use on the initial video load for users? So if we wanted the player to load at 720p for everyone on first load, we could select that, and they can move up or down in quality…or we could select 1080p, or any of the other resolutions as the default for first load.

Thanks again for all the good work on the player!

    Have a good weekend.

    Devin

    Hi Devin,

I’m glad you like the playlists! As for the questions:

    1) We had were resolving this problem last week. I tried to replicate your issue with and iPhone 5 emulator, but I always saw just the FV Player play button. What version of the iOS were you using?

    2) I added the answer to your question into the Vimeo documentation. Hope it helps!

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hey Eduard,

    1) I just tried again on my iPhone 5 and it is looking great now — only one play button. I bet I had an outdated iOS. I actually went and got a iPhone 7 this morning…it was time for an upgrade.

    2) Thanks for adding the answer to the documentation. That’s what I needed. I think I’ll try out the Enable Quality Switching and see if that helps the playback for that small handful of members with slow internet. A few people were saying the player was stopping and skipping on every video and I’m pretty sure their slow speed can’t handle the HD. I asked them to try it out at 720p and the lower qualities, so I’ll let you know what they say. I really like the idea of the auto quality switching with the MPEG-DASH that you added…it’s still playing a bit choppier on both my macs compared to the other playback options, so I think I’ll let everybody switch quality on their own and see what feedback comes my way.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Devin,

Good to hear that the problem is fixed and didn’t re-appear. Let us know when you get that feedback!

    Thanks,

    Hey Eduard,

Good news…I heard back from two members and they said it played great for them at 360p. They were very happy to be able to watch the lessons without any skipping. Just like we thought, turns out their slow internet speed was causing the issues. Glad to have it fixed for them! Think I’ll stick with the manual quality switching for a while and maybe I’ll get some extra sign ups from the folks that live out in the country with slow internet.

    Thanks again,

    Devin
