Ad Code versus (Pre roll ad and Post-roll ad) + FV Player Pro with DFP + VAST Qn

1. The Ad code field in the shortcode editor is meant for using overlay pop-up ads which either use a Google AdSense ads or your own text ad: https://foliovision.com/player/ads/adding-popup-ads. The difference between them is that the Overlay ads are non-linear and appear during the video playback without disrupting it, while the pre-roll, mid-roll and post-roll ads are linear and appear before, after, or during a break in the video content.

2. Correct, to enable using the the VAST and VPAID ads, you need to purchase the add-on: https://foliovision.com/player/vast. The tag variables are runtime variables within FV Player VAST configuration, so you need to have the add-on purchased in order to make them work: https://foliovision.com/player/vast/url-tags.

3. Yes, you can. For linear ad placement, you can use the mid-roll parameter both in the shortcode editor, or manually in the shortcode. To use it in the shortcode editor, you just type the time in seconds into the VAST Midroll field under the Options tab just like you did in your screenshot.
