    Hello all.

I am trying to get a splash/thumbnail working for my videos – but can’t.

    [fvplayer src="https://player.vimeo.com/external/151954620.hd.mp4?s=54c084ae8df20fc53797418549a17079300425af&profile_id=119" splash="http://gearlocker.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/GOPRO4__MGL0003.jpg"]

    Page example – http://gearlocker.nz/shooting-equipment/

Just trying to get away from the black screen videos… :)
    Help?

    Hello Kerry,

seems like there are some invisible characters in your splash=”…” attribute. When you open shortcode editor to edit the shortcode and click to Update the shortcode, doesn’t it fix the issue?

    Thanks,
    Martin

No – and a direct copy and paste of the link works – http://gearlocker.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/GOPRO4__MGL0003.jpg

Do you think getting rid of the underscores on the file name might help?

    Hello Kerry,

can you try t remove the splash=”…” part of the shortcode completely and then insert it again using the link you copied?

You can also try to open the “Text” tab of the WordPress post editor. There might be some weird HTML in your shortcode. If you let us know what it is, perhaps we can improve our parsing to be more resilient.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    That did it.

Removed the whole of the shortcode, then reinserted it and it works.

I take it I need to do a thumbnail in the same ratio as the video to get a full screen? I.e. 16:9?

    Thanks.

Though – this does bring up another question – is there any advantage in utilising the direct file link in vimeo instead of the ‘standard’ one.

As the traditional embed/link has a thumbnail while the direct file link doesnt…

    Hello Kerry,

your splash image should have the same aspect ratio as the video and the player should have the same aspect ratio as the video as well to make sure it looks best.

When using direct file link from Vimeo the only advantage is that it works with Vimeo stats. With our advanced integration you get quality switching and subtitles working and also the splash image.

    Thanks,
    Martin
