Subtitle links generated in PHP

[Solved]

I am looking for a solution to play YouTube or Vimeo videos with a subtitle file provided by me (on my server). I am running WordPress with the Cactus VideoPro Theme. Code modifications could be made.
Could that be achieved with the FV player?
    Any other suggestions?
    Kurt

    Hello Kurt,

thank you for your question and for being interested in FV Player!

Yes, this can be easily achieved with FV Player. FV Player supports .VTT files for subtitles. You can learn more about how subtitles work with FV Player and see examples here: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/subtitles

Subtitles from videos hosted on Vimeo and YouTube can also be parsed automatically, saving you all the work associated with hosting and inserting individual .VTT files.

We are not aware of any compatibility issues with the Cactus VideoPro theme, so it should all work just fine.

    Dear Maria,
Thank you for your quick answer.
Great that this would be possible.
But let me describe in more detail what I want to make absolutely sure it can be implemented:

    I have a website with 16000 posts (operaonvideo.com)
each post has an embedded video which is played with a video player (FV player is a configuration option of the theme)
The videos reside somewhere else on the internet such as YouTube, Vimeo, ok.ru, mail.ru and many more.
I want to provide my own subtitle file(s) for many of these videos.
The subtitle files reside on my webserver and are named POSTID-XX.vtt where xx is the language code.

Now what I need is a code change in my theme that the video player automatically picks up the correct subtitle file and displays it with the video. This should occur fully automatically for all 16000 video posts. No configuration or coding for an individualpost.

If I read the docu correctly subtitles can be added/configured programmatically coded to the video player at run time.

Please could you verify that this is really possible.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.

    Best regards
    Kurt

    Hello Kurt,

what’s important to note is that you need FV Player Pro to be able to use VTT subtitles for YouTube and Vimeo videos.

Adding the subtitles in a dynamic way like you are describing would be best done using the fv_player_item filter. You can check the data structure in the programming guide: https://foliovision.com/player/advanced/api-programming#filters -> look for “fv_player_item”

There are some code samples which show how to hook a filter on fv_flowplayer_args_pre which gives you an idea about how to access $post->ID which will be required.

You might want to ensure that the file exists on your server before putting it in though.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

Unfortunately, my Theme developer claims it cannot be done and refuses to work on it.

Could you please refer me to a developer with FV player experience,
who would be willing to take on the task.
I would of course pay for it.

    Best regards
    Kurt
