How can I make video responsive on mobile screens?

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › How can I make video responsive on mobile screens?

  • Tim Solac 11 years, 11 months ago

It is possible to make the video responsive as it will scale down to mobile screen size?

If I re-size the browser the video screen does not re-size automatically.

    Hi Tim,

On mobile devices, our player will play full screen at the right sizes. We’ll have to do some more work on how to reliably scale down the size of the player within an html page. We’ll get back to you with more information.

Vimeo does this nicely, but not all videos will work in mobile mode.

    Thanks for using FV Plugins!

Thank you for fast reply. Actually I tested on my Sony Xperia, it doesn’t display correctly. Is there any setting I need to do?
Thank you for developing and sharing the FV plugin.

    Regards
    Tim

    Hi Tim,

Could you both share a URL as well as the exact Xperia model along with OS and browser?

    Thanks!

    Hi Alec
    The address is ‘www.alittlepartymovie.com/trailer’
    Tested on:
Xperia ST15i mini – android 4.0.4 – default browser chrome?
Not exactly my model but here is a similar model
    ‘http://mobiletest.me/#d=sonyx10&u=http://www.alittlepartymovie.com/trailer’
    itouch 4th Gen- iOS 6.1.3 – safari
    i.e.
I discover that the video re-size when the phone is horizontal
    i.e.
but it fails on smaller horizontal screen size
    i.e.

    Thanks

    Hello Tim,

to make the player responsive, just edit models/flowplayer-frontend.php:

Line 189: change “width” and “height” to “max-width” and “max-height”.

Line 218: remove this line (sets data-flashfit=”true”).

Or you can wait for next release (this week), where this will be the new default, with option to go back to fixed size player.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Tim,

we just released version 2.1.7 which is responsive by default.

It also includes template and basic video compatibility checks.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Excellent just a little bug :(
The video no longer play and when I clicked on template check it shows the following error:
    =====================
It appears your Flowplayer JavaScript library is loading before jQuery. Your videos probably won’t work. Please make sure your jQuery library is loading using the standard WordPress function – wp_enqueue_scripts(), or move it above wp_head() in your header.php template.
    ======================
I have NextGen Gallery, Woocommerce plugins installed.

    How can I resolve this?
    Thank you.

    Hi Tim,

Please fix your theme or if you’d like to engage us for a Pro Support incident, we’d be happy to fix it for you. If you buy FV Flowplayer 5, as part of our launch special we’ll fix your theme as well.

    Hi Tim!

We’ve rearranged how our FV player interacts with jQuery to be more tolerant.

Give it a try again and let us know how it goes.

    Hi there,

I’m having also problems with the responsive design of our campaign website ‘www.gewinne-monaco.de’ which works fine on notebooks and desktops but on iOS devices it’s loading all the time with no success.

What can I do? I’m already using the latest version of the plugin.

    Many thanks in advance
    Joachim

    Hello Joachim,

sorry about the delay, when I open the page on iPad, it freezes on the black loading screen with the spinning progess indicator half of the time. It also says there is some JavaScript error on Line 1.

Is that the issue you were having? Does it happen without our plugin?

    Thanks,
    Martin
