Quality Videos played from Amazon

Few days ago we coudn’t change quality bacause we were using HLS stream from amazon (configured like hire https://foliovision.com/player/securing-your-video/hls-stream ). After las update your plugin show up in player quality swich.

Problem is resolution swich information:
-224p
-360p
-576p

In manual you have wrote:
*System preset: HLS 400k, Output Key: hls_400_
this preset uses baseline profile with level 3, 400×288 pixel video – suitable for mobile
*System preset: HLS 1M, Output Key: hls_1000_
this preset uses main profile with level 3.1, 640×432 pixel video with 872 kbit/s bitrate – good preset do SD video
*System preset: HLS 2M, Output Key: hls_2000_
this preset uses baseline profile with level 3.1, 1280×720 pixel video with 2400 kbit/s bitrate – good preset do HD video

But after conversion i see (imput resolution 1920 x 1080):
*System preset: HLS 400k – Output Resolution 400 x 224
*System preset: HLS 1M – Output Resolution 640 x 360
*System preset: HLS 2M – Output Resolution 1024 x 576

I understand that the difference is from aspect ratio of the input my file, right?
Question is which preset should i choose to have 720p and HLS encryption working on your player. It’s problem for me bacause people are paying for videos and see info in player 576p (but should see 720p).

I have version FV player PRO 7.1.4.726.beta

Hello Marie,

that is correct, FV Player 7 enables manual quality switching for HLS streams. It lists the video qualities automatically.

I see the issue that the “System preset: HLS 2M” in AWS Elastic Transcoder actually sets the limit to 1024×768 rather than 1280×720. So that preset needs to be cloned and the resolution needs to be set right. The bitrate which is 1872 should be increased to 2194 or so. But you try even 3-4 Mbps if you need superior video quality.

Hi Marie!

Preset looks good.

The quality switching starts automatically by automatically picking the best resolution. But user has an option to choose lower/higher resolution if he wants from drop down menu. If you wish to completely disable the function you can use qsel=”no” in a shortcode.

I somehow overlooked your last questions.

The price for the encoding through Amazon Elastic Transcoder for 150min of HD output is $0.034 x 150 = 5.1 USD.

KMS (Key Management System) pricing is more confusing. There is monthly charge for a custom master encryption key of $1 and $0.03 per 10,000 requests.

For example (with S3) you will have 1 000 000 unique API requests of your file (decryption requests) . Then your monthly bill (outside of free tier) will be:

(1 000 000 x 0.03 / 10 000) + 1 = 3 +1 = $4.
