Open a New Webpage after a Video is finished Playing

[Solved]

  • Mark Choo 14 years, 6 months ago

Hello – I am new to word press and I am looking for a plug-in or options to have a new webpage open as soon as a video on my page is finished playing. One of the admins from the Graphene theme for WordPress suggested your player, so is there a way to do this in your player?

I am using: WordPress 3.2.1 on Windows 7 system, I am also using a .MOV file. I planned on uploading the file to my site on a new webpage, and I would like to have the video play on that page.

    Thank You,
    Mark

    Hello Mark,

yes our player supports ‘redirect’ option, so when the video finishes playing, a new page is opened. The shortcode to be added is simply redirect='http://example.com'

Zdenka – Thank you so much, I will give that a try! Where exactly do I have to put that code?

    zdenka 15 years ago

    Hi Mark,

just add the shortcode as usual, and insert the above code into it. So the example can look something like:
    [flowplayer src='example.mp4' redirect='http://example.com']

Of course you can define other parameters such as width, height and splash image as well in the shortcode.

    Hi There!

This works fine in Firefox, but in Chrome, only a pop-up windows opens, is it possible to open it in an new browserwindow as well?

    Kind regards!

    Hi Sito,

this depends on the browsers behavior. We are opening a new window in all browsers, but it Chrome does not allow this, and it opens everything as popup.

    Hello Zdenka,

That’s to bad, and also sad…I’ts a great function, but if this does not work for Chrome then I can not use it…

Thank you ver much for the answer, and is there a change for you to update this function so it will work in Chrome?

I am also having a problem with Chrome redirecting after playing the video. What can I do to remedy this problem?

Now I am discovering that this does not forward on the iPad…anyway to correct this?

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello Philip,

we fixed this – if a window popup fails, it opens the link in the same window. Users can still go back to your site by hitting the back button in their browser. If you have a playlist, this triggers only on last video.

This will get to 2.2.2 version, you can get the latest dev version here: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/fv-wordpress-flowplayer.zip

    Thanks,
    Martin

is there a way to redirect in the same windows instead of opening a new windows ?

    Martin 12 years ago

    Hello purelife8899,

the redirect opens in the same window, if the popup is blocked. So the URL opens all the time, even if there is a popup blocker.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello,
I have a similar question. I _want_ the redirect to open in the same tab, not to open a new tab, because I am redirecting within the WordPress site. And of course I can’t control whether the user is blocking pop-ups. Is there a way to configure “redirect” within FV Player so it opens in the same tab?
    thanks!

    Hi Russell,

The player should redirect in the same window by default. Does it open a new tab for you?

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,
Yes, it opens a new tab every time. The problem is that I’m building a site for kids and they’ll get confused.
    Thanks!

    Hi again Eduard,
I just tried the site in GoogleChrome–and it does open in the same window there. But in Safari it opens a new tab, both on MacBook and on iPad. This seems to be a Safari problem, but it doesn’t happen when you click within the WordPress site. Is there anything I can do to avoid this, to redirect within the same WordPress site?
    thanks!

    Hi again (3rd time!),
I’m sorry to keep writing, but I realized there’s a better way to explain what I need. Is there a way to redirect to a post or page in the same WordPress site _without_ calling a full URL (which makes Safari open a new window)?
    thanks again!

    Hi Eduard,
Yes it opens a new tab, but it seems like this might be a Safari problem. It works properly in Chrome, but opens a new tab in Safari on both iPad and MacBook. Is there a workaround?
    thanks,
    Russell

    Hi Russel,

I did some testing in Safari in both Yosemite and Sierra and also on iOS (iPad Pro – iOS 10) and the redirection never opened a new tab. Could you try it in this demo and let me know if you are getting the redirection in a new tab?

    Thanks,
    Eduard

    Hi Eduard,
The link you provided reopened the same webpage (the forum thread) in the same window. I think that’s what you meant.
Here is the shortcode that keeps opening a new tab on Safari 9.1.2 on El Capitan (MacBook Pro, 13-inch, mid-2012)
    [fvplayer src="https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/enccom-encodings/Block1010/Block1010-HLS/KCO_EPS1010_%2BBreak_146952167.m3u8" splash="http://teamwonderreel.online/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/T-BlockRace.png" autoplay="true" controlbar="yes" redirect="http://teamwonderreel.online/blocksubq/"]

Have I done something wrong here?
    thanks,
    Russell

    Martin 9 years ago

    Hello Russell,

I’m using Safari 9.1.3 on iOS 10.9.5 and it doesn’t open in a new tab for me.

Actually FV Player tries to open a new tab first and if it fails it then opens the link in the same window. So perhaps you allowed these popup for your site domain.

Perhaps there could be a preference if it should try to open new tab or always use the existing tag. We will discuss this in our team.

    Thanks,
    Martin
