Just wondering if there is a way to have ads show at regular intervals for longer videos or mid way through? For example, a 30 minute video and have pre-determined ad breaks every 3 minutes or 5 minutes?

It depends what do you mean by an “ad”. If you mean VAST ads you can easily set multiple ads for a single video with our FV VAST plugin. We call them waterfall ads.
It’s little different in terms of simple html ads and pop-ups which we use to call “Actions”. You can set them as pre-roll, mid-roll and etc.

Your request is totally reasonable. I’m not sure why Juraj decided to talk about publishers who spam their users (I’ve removed that section) here. You don’t need Waterfall here but multiple ads, which indeed is discussed on that page of VAST Documentation (about two-thirds of the way down the page).

Ok thanks for the info. Currently we just use FV Player Pro and only show ads from our own sponsors and specify the video ad ourselves for each video. Would we be able to do using VAST or is that only for showing ads from ad networks?
In a perfect world we would have a 30-45 minute video with video ads inserted every 5-7 minutes throughout the video like commercial breaks. These video ads would be specified by us in each video and at what point you’d like to show it.
You should be able to set this up with actions. Martin will take a look at this ticket tomorrow morning and confirm exactly what is available for internal ads. Most people running ads that often end up using VAST as setting up and managing that many ads is a lot of work.
That said, your own ads will generally generate far more money.

the video ads feature in FV Player Pro currently only lets you place these ads before or after the video. There is currently no way of placing these ads in middle of a video.
We are working on a feature which lets you put annotations at any specific time in any video and I see it could let you pick from your video ads as well. It’s a bigger job though.
With VAST you can manage your own ad inventory as well.

So I purchased the VAST plugin to go with FV Player Pro. I’m having some issues though…We are just serving our own ads hosting them on vimeo currently. No ad network or tags. How would I go about specifying the ad to play mid roll? I only see options for putting in a VAST URL which from the docs is for an ad network.
Also, can I specify different ads to show every 3 minutes midroll? I see where you can put multiple entries into the time value but it seems that would just show the same ad?
Is there a better way to go about this? All of our ads for our ad partners are hosted on our own Vimeo Pro account.

FV Player VAST only works with the VAST ads. If you have your own ads you can still load them into some VAST serving platform and use that to rotate the ads. There are different services for it and I think Google AdSense lets you manage your own ad inventory as well.
