insert image or video between playlist items

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › insert image or video between playlist items

  • Francesco 3 years, 2 months ago

Hi, I have a playlist with many items to simulate a schedule programming, the jump from a item to another shows a black screen as the video is being loaded, I’d like to insert an image, video or something to have a transition effect, how can I do this?

    Hi Francesco,

thank you for reaching out to us!

Presently, nothing can be done about it. The brief black screen as the next video is loaded is something that even YouTube and other big video providers have.

The best thing that can be done is minimizing the load time by making sure you, as a provider, have optimal video sources that are fast and easy to load, as well as the viewers having a strong video connection.

That being said, I will ask our development team to see, if there is anything else that could possibly be done.

    Thanks,
    Maria

Hi Maria, I would appreciate that input, the videos are being served by cloudfront from our S3 bucket, on the other hand, we can’t control our users connection, that’s why I want to smooth the transition.

    Hello Francesco,

please let us know if all the videos in your playlist have the splash images set. If yes, then it should already work – see any of the playlists on https://foliovision.com/player/demos/playlist-styles – any time you click the thumbnail it shows that item image first before the video really starts playing.

However I see we do not show it when auto-advancing from one playlist item to another. I’m not sure if we want to do that as in some cases it might make the transition less smooth – imagine the first video fades out to black and then the second video starts with fade-in from black – if the splash screen appears for a fraction of second it would act as a visual glitch. So this might not be as simple as it seems or perhaps I’m over-complicating it.

    Thanks,
    Martin
