Auto Fullscreen when user rotates mobile to landscape

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › How to … › Auto Fullscreen when user rotates mobile to landscape

  • morbificagent 2 years ago

    Hi together,

On several websites i have seen this and I want to configure this for my site too.
But I cant find any solution for this.

In detail I want that the player goes to Fullscreen when the user rotates his mobile to landscape.

I only can find options to auto-fullscreen always on mobile.

Would be great to get this working. Many thanks for all ideas and comments

    Hello morbificagent,

could you please send an example website that works that way? We often like to read the websites in landscape orientation and if the video would go to fullscreen it could be disrupting.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I will send you a site on which it’s implemented as soon as i see one again.

I understand, that this can’t be a “global” option as there are to many sites for which this would be a no go. But the possibility to configure it per Video would be awesome.

    Here is an example:

    https://amp.dev/documentation/examples/multimedia-animations/video_rotate_to_fullscreen_with_hint/preview/

You have to tap on the video in this example to start… A hint is shown here “rotate for fullscreen” and if I rotate my android it gets fullscreen. Great thing!

It’s like on the YouTube App too (ok, that is an app and not a website) and I think it would be a great feature!

http://www.twitch.tv has it too and it works smoother like my example before as it switches back from “fullscreen landscape” to “normal” too if I rotate my mobile back.

    I think it feels “natural”

    Hello Morbificagent,

Thank you for these samples. I see this works on a YouTube kind of websites where the video is at the top of the page and it’s the main feature on the page.

We are more concerned about how this would work on a typical website where people post articles and each article might have multiple videos. Perhaps it could initiate fullscreen if you rotate your mobile and at least 80% of the video is already visible and the video is playing. That might just work for multiple videos on the page.

Please let us know if you have ever seen a page like that.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

no i think i havent seen a page like this before.
I think if it would be possible to implement such “fullscreen if you rotate your mobile and at least 80% of the video is already visible and the video is playing”-thing, it would be the best possible solution.

But if its not so easy to implement that way, the possibility for the admin to manually configure the “rotate for fullscreen”-feature per video would be a great too.

im just wondering about the long “awaiting moderation”… Anything i can help with?
