Video Playback Error on IE?

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Bug Reports › Video Playback Error on IE?

  • Devin 6 years, 4 months ago

    Hi Foliovision Team,

I don’t have Internet Explorer so I can’t verify it, but I’ve been getting a few reports of my videos not playing recently. I had one site member give me some info about his browser/computer. Figured I’d send you all the specs just in case.

    Here’s what he said…

“I stand corrected. Internet Explorer is the browser that does not work with your videos. Firefox, Chrome and Microsoft Edge all work fine.

As for my system I am running Windows 10 Pro. The processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz. Installed RAM is 16.0 GB. on a 64 bit operating system. I had a guy here in Silicon Valley build my machine so it does not have a particular brand name.”

Let me know if you need any other info. I’m still waiting to hear back from another site member to see if they’re using IE as well.

    Thanks!
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

checking on IE 11 (11.471.17134.0) on Windows 10 Home the Vimeo videos play just fine for me. I tested on https://foliovision.com/

What specific video seems to cause the issue? Is there any specific error that appears, or does it just keep loading forever? Can you ask them to check the video on https://foliovision.com/ too?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

I’m still getting some new reports of video playback errors, but the player seems to be working fine on my end too. The latest error somebody got was the following:

html5 video not found; Couldn’t find the required video type /video fvmp4

They said it’s happening on most videos. They’re using a Mac with Safari (version 9.1.3). Their version of Safari seems out of date so I asked them to update and see if that will fix their issue. Going to do some more basic trouble shooting with them and see if I can fix it on my end without wasting your time. I’m guessing it’s a temporary glitch that will work itself out.

I actually got the “html5 video not found” error once myself, but reloaded the page and it seemed to work again. Do you have any ideas on how to prevent this error?

    Thanks again!
    Devin

One more quick follow up on my last message a minute ago…

I just noticed…in FV Player Pro > Settings > Hosting there are some API errors that are showing up…

I’ll copy and paste the first few rows here…

There were 101 API errors, last one from 2018-12-16 16:29:16.

2018-12-16 16:27:49: Error for video https://vimeo.com/205980902: Too many API requests. Wait an hour or so, then try again.

2018-12-16 16:27:50: Error for video https://vimeo.com/205996854: Too many API requests. Wait an hour or so, then try again.

2018-12-16 16:27:50: Error for video https://vimeo.com/205999319: Too many API requests. Wait an hour or so, then try again.

2018-12-16 16:27:50: Error for video https://vimeo.com/206151151: Too many API requests. Wait an hour or so, then try again.

The list goes on like this. Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Thanks,
    Devin

    Hello Devin,

the Vimeo API requests are used to obtain video splash screens and durations. So if you got such warning on December 16th, it appears that you inserted a lot of videos on that way, or perhaps you have some videos posted without splash screens – then these are obtained automatically. Are you noticing some of your videos not having a splash screen?

Regarding these playback issues – it appears as if the video loading Ajax didn’t respond properly. Please post the Vimeo URL of at least a single video for which the issue was reported. There is also a slim chance that the Ajax just failed to load as you web host was overloaded.

    Thanks,
    Martin
