Category Slug Showing Instead Of Page Slug

Foliovision › Forums › FV Top Level Categories › Bug reports › Category Slug Showing Instead Of Page Slug

  • Ken Roberts 12 years, 2 months ago

    Hello :)

I have used the plugin on my sites years and been working perfectly.

I have a situation now where it might be broken…

If I understand FV Top Cat correctly, if a “page” and “category” have the same exact name (slug), the page is suppose to be shown and instead of the category. Am I correct?

If this is the case it’s not working. I have run many tests and even disabled other plugins to see if there is a conflict. And I get the same results.

The problem is that the category is showing and not the page.

I need the “page” to be served up instead of the “category” in this case.

I am using WP 3.5.1 and my theme I always use is Headway (headway.com).

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Ken Roberts :)

    Hello Ken,

thank you for the bug report.

please try to visit the Settings –> Permalinks screen after you added the page. That might help.

Could you please let us know if it helped? It would make fixing of the bug easier.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,

    Thanks for the reply :)

Going to Settings –> Permalinks makes no difference. Tried that before submitting this bug report.

    Here is interesting thing…

I downloaded and installed a development version you gave me along time ago: “http://foliovision.com/downloads/fv-top-level-cats-dev.zip” ( http://foliovision.com/support/fv-top-level-categories/bug-reports/category-feed-404-error ).

This version works correctly. It does serve up the “page” instead of the “category”.

I would prefer not to have to use this old dev version if I don’t have to. Not sure if something else would be broken in this version. I’ve tested and it looks fine but not 100% sure if it’s ok with WP 3.5.1.

Might be interesting to give an option in the admin to display either a “page” or the “category”. Let the user decide. Just a thought.

    Love this plugin!

    Thanks again,

    Ken Roberts

Ok… so I tested some more on this “dev” version and I can’t use it because on the sitemap it is showing “http://www.domain.com/category/categoryname/” under the categories.

So while it works for showing the “page” instead of the category, it isn’t get rid of “/category/categoryname/”.

Hope you can find the problem soon :)

    Hello Ken,

Settings –> Permalinks should really help, it’s bit of mystery why it didn’t helped on your site.

If this is important for your work, I would suggest you use our pro plugin support option, where we can fix the plugin directly on your site or find a reason for this issue and make sure it doesn’t appear again.

Other than that, we will work on the new version and make sure it works for us, perhaps it will help your issue too.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Martin,

I finally figured out how to get the current version to work correctly…

What I had to do after I publish a “page” that has the same name as a “category” is go to “settings -> permalinks” and hit save changes.

I know you said to do that but I didn’t realize I had to do that EVERY TIME.

So thanks for your help :)
