Broken after 3.4 update?

Foliovision › Forums › FV Top Level Categories › Bug reports › Broken after 3.4 update?

Hi – I think FV top level categories may have stopped working after 3.4 update. Basically, /categories/ reappeared after the update, nothing else seems to have been a factor.
Thanks for your work on this plug in

The plugin is still working but “/category/” appears in the wp_nav_menu and pages don’t open anymore.
If I type the URL manualy “www.website.here/category/news” the link changes automaticaly to “www.website.here/news” and it works but I load my pages in ajax + html5 (pushState) and it doesn’t work because of “/category/” in the wp_nav_menu link.

I use a custom menu walker to remove accents. I can fix it this way but should be edited every time a custom texonomy is added.

Please fix it or give a hint to fix it by myself.

    PS: sorry for my English.

Uninstallation and complete deletion of this plugin does not restore the permalink to using the base /category/ either. hence, whenever i typed abc.com/category/uncat/.. it will still redirect to abc.com/uncat/ and that causes page not found, unless i put install back the plugin.

ive tried this with a clean WordPress and this issue is confirmed. have looked into .htaccess file and everywhere i can think of to remove the redirection but failed so far.

does anyone know how to manually fix this issue?

Yes… I am having the same issue. The serps are starting to index /category/post/ and having a dupe content issue.

Any idea on an ETA for a fix?

    Thanks :)

    Hello Rothbert and everybody,

sorry about the delay here, I’m not sure what happened to our forum notifications.

We noticed that there are some issues with FV Top Level Categories in WordPress 3.4.1, so we will work on resolving these and then release a new version of the plugin.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello kilzac,

you should try to go to Settings -> Permalinks and re-save the permalinks. Then you issue should be solved.

    Hello Ken,

there should be no issue with duplicate content, as the URLs with /category/ should redirect to the right category URL with no category prefix. If that was not happening, there must be some plugin conflict on your site.

    Hello Alek,

look like your Ajax was not handling 301 redirection properly, as it should still load the category even if there is a redirection to right URL with no category prefix.

    Hello Rothbert,

new version of FV Top Level Categories (1.4) is now available for upgrade in WordPress.org. It fixes the WordPress 3.4 and 3.4.1 issues, so if you are having issues, just upgrade.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi everybody,

I noticed that FV Top Level Categories doesn’t work with WordPress 3.5.1. The category page doesn’t show anything and the menu item is not marked as current. Hope you could fix this issue, I’ve used this plugin before and it’s really good.
    Thanks for great work

    Hello Szaleq,

we upgraded a lot of WP sites and haven’t noticed any issues.

It might be depending on what version of WordPress you upgraded the site from. Try to visit the Settings –> Permalinks screen and re-save. It should help with any issues.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thanks for the replay,

Well I tested this plugin on another two installations of WP 3.5.1 and it actually works prefect. But on the first one it still doesn’t work… Now I know that’s my problem, not the plugin’s :) so I’ll be looking for what’s wrong.

    Thanks,
    szaleq

    Hello Szaleq,

we are happy to assist you in finding the source of the problem, just use our professional plugin support. There might be a conflicting WordPress rewrite rule in some other plugin.

    Thanks,
    Martin
