Google has four options for video publishers and FV Player gives you a fifth great bonus option.
Option One: Traditional AdSense Around the Video
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. You can put ads on a page with video on it. This is the simplest solution which is compatible with any player and Adsense. As long as you don’t put ads in the video, you are pretty safe in terms of Google’s terms and conditions (see below).
Here’s some detailed instructions on how to use FV Player with Google AdSense.
Option Two: AdSense for Video
If you’d like to use video ads, there are two options. AdSense and Google Doubleclick for Publishers. Here’s the info on AdSense for video. FV Player and FV Player Pro are 100% compatible. Enjoy.
As you can’t use YouTube hosting, consider hosting your videos with Vimeo Pro (just $200/year) and publishing them with FV Player on your domain in our chromeless FV Player and with Google AdSense. Simple ad revenues with almost zero hosting costs and no violation of AdSense for Video terms.
Option Three: Google’s Creator Program
If you are republishing YouTube videos, be careful. You cannot use AdSense video ads on YouTube Videos. Here are the rules:
Not be hosted on YouTube: YouTube content isn’t eligible for AdSense for video. If you’re a YouTube content producer, you could monetize through the YouTube partner program.
If you are republishing YouTube videos, you must join the YouTube Partner program. The requirements to apply are to have at least 1,000 subscribers and at least 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months.
If you want any support, you’ll have to be at Partner level. Hey Google is now a card carrying member of our shark eat fish world: there’s just not much support for the little guy from organisations as big as Google.
Our FV Player Pro works perfectly with YouTube videos.
Option Four: Google Doubleclick for Publishers
There are two options here: DFP for Small Business and DFP Premium. You are most likely in the Small Business category.
You do need to have an existing AdSense account to be considered for Google Doubleclick for Publishers. Google is pretty strict about it, so make sure to review the terms carefully before moving ahead. Like AdSense/AdWords, bans may be for life.
We actively monitor DFP Small Business publishers to check for continued compliance with our policies. If we find publishers that do not comply with our policies or Terms & Conditions, we may suspend or terminate the account.
The DFP Small Business Terms & Conditions are not negotiable, and are subject to change at any time at the sole discretion of Google.
Main conditions include age over 13, no gambling, religion, politics, sexual orientation and very strangely, trade union membership. You are also not supposed to gather this info and collate with existing data on your users (frankly, hard to monitor if done discreetly, but this is a condition). You also cannot use Flash cookies (nice) or place ads on other people’s sites (logical).
FV Player should work with Google DFP, although we would like to do more testing.
Option Five: Choose Your Own Ads for Your Own or Friendly/Affiliate Products
With FV Player you can add your own ads or ads for friends which include direct affiliate links. If you are in a monetisable field, this is where the real money is as you could be collecting large payments for successful signups/sales instead of 5¢ to 50¢/click. You don’t even need our VAST/VPAID options for this to work.
Here’s how to use our built-in ads feature on top of your video. Here’s how to use pre-roll and post-roll ads.
We hope these suggestions help you monetise your videos better. If we have missed anything, please let me know in the comments.
