Videos not Playing – FVPlayer-Pro+Vimeo Security Plugin

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Videos not Playing – FVPlayer-Pro+Vimeo Security Plugin

  • Hoshang S. 4 years, 10 months ago

    Dear Foliovision Team.
I am using your FV Player Pro with the FV Player Vimeo Security Plugin to make my videos secure against downloads. Unfortunately there are more and more problems playing the videos. Sometimes they are played and sometimes not. Sometimes some videos are affected, sometimes others.
I add two pictures to the appendix that show what happens if the videos do not play. Mostly it says: Video file not found – API error. For testing you are welcome to try my videos on this page: https://tu-torials.de/vorschau/ .
I have also been expanding my page – recently I got a mail from WordPress, which tells me that my page has a technical problem. Here a part of the message: “Since WordPress 5.2, there is a built-in function that detects when a plugin or theme is causing a fatal error on your site and therefore notifies you with this automated email. In this case WordPress has intercepted an error in one of your plugins, FV Player Pro.” Apparently, the problem relates to FV Player Pro.
Please help me to solve these problems. I have many customers who are currently complaining about not being able to watch the videos for what they paid for.
    With best regards,
    Hoshang

    Hello Hoshang,

we have a routine to try different API servers when loading Vimeo videos, but I see it only detects when the server is down. Now we improved it to deal with bad server response as well.

Please switch FV Player Pro to Beta: https://foliovision.com/player/basic-setup/switching-fv-player-pro-to-beta Once you are on beta, you should see the update to version 7.4.26.727.beta available. That update will fix the issue you are having.

If you do not see the update yet, you can just deactivate and delete the current FV Player Pro plugin and then let wp-admin -> Settings -> FV Player reinstall the Pro pack for you, or grab a fresh ZIP file of FV Player Pro from https://foliovision.com/my-licenses and reinstall from that and the issue will be fixed.

You also mentioned the email notification reporting a fatal error in FV Player to you. Please try to find it and copy the error message here. Did it occur only once or does the issue keeps reoccurring?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Dear Martin,

thank you very much for your answer. As you said I switched it to beta mode and updated it to 7.4.26.727.beta version. So far (3 hours) the problem that the videos don’t play hasn’t occurred again.

The problem with “the email notification reporting a fatal error” occurred twice within the last week – whenever I worked on my site and added new videos from Vimeo via the “FV-Player” and then updated/saved my homepage.

Thereby the following text was sent to me by mail:

    "Hello!
Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in function that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your website and notifies you with this automated email.
In this case WordPress has intercepted an error in one of your plugins, FV Player Pro.
First visit your website (https://tu-torials.de/) and check it for visible problems. Next, visit the page where the error occurred (https://tu-torials.de/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php) and check for visible problems. ...

    Hello Hoshang,

that PHP error was triggered by something that was in the [vc_row type= shortcode when saving one of your posts. Is that the full error trace, or does it continue? Perhaps it even leads to the exact post ID for which the issue has occurred.

    Thanks,
    Martin

Hi. I have the same problem with some users. Videos do not play. Change FV Player Pro to Beta. And I have it updated to the latest version. But I don’t know if it’s some Firewall option that doesn’t let them play. Most of my users can watch the videos without any problem.

    Martin 5 years ago

    Hello Lana,

please provide at least one of the Vimeo video IDs for which the issue has occurred. If it’s 208950915 or 208957948 or 208963645 then it seems the allowed domain for these is set improperly on Vimeo.

It if’s not the case, then please let us know when did the issue occur and what device and browser did your users use.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin

No. They are exclusive videos for my subscribers. For example. 444794043.
I configured the domain within the vimeo environment as you mentioned in the instructions.
    For example: midomain.com I changed it 345678midomain.com
And I noted it in “Alternative Referer” in the FV Player settings.
The weird thing is that most of my users can easily see all the videos. And only some cannot play any of the videos.

    Thank you,
    Wool

    Martin.

I have made a special example page with one of the videos:
    (redacted)

    Thanks

    Hello Lana,

is 444794043 a new video only added today? I can’t see it in the API logs. When did the users experience issues with it?

Are you able to check what device and browser did the users use? If you contacted you using a contact form plugin, then it might be already logged there. If they sent you an email, it would be great if you could ask what they are using.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin

I set this video as hidden on Vimeo. And I uploaded it days ago.
My users who could not access the videos use Chrome, Edge and Firefox as browsers. I also asked what operating system is installed on their devices. One has Windows and another hasn’t answered yet.
The first user lives in Austria. And he could not play the video on any device: mobile, ipad, computer.
I don’t know if this information can help you.
The other is the same. It does not play on any of the devices you have.
Were you able to enter the example link I sent you?

    Martin 5 years ago

    Hello Lana,

that https://www.c..com/p…./ link which you posted is asking for a login indeed.

Are they still not able to play it or did the issue just occur once?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Lana 5 years ago

Sorry. I’ve corrected link. Try to enter now.

They cannot see any video. Same error: “html5 Video file not found. Please reload the page and try again.”

    Hello Lana,

good news, I’m able to reproduce the issue.

There is some problem with the /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php address on your website. I just get HTTP 403 out of it with message: “You don’t have permission to access this resource.” So either there is some serious bug in the PHP code or access to that URL is somehow protected by some security plugin or some security enhancement of your web host.

Please check your web server PHP error logs and look for any errors that could related to fv-wordpress-flowplayer or fv-player-pro plugins or that admin-ajax.php URL. If you are not sure about how it’s done, please ask your web host support. That’s what I would recommend as they should see the cause of that HTTP 403 issue if it’s their internal security routing (in something like mod_security).

Also check if you have any security plugin which is really trying to lock down your website by restricting WP Ajax (that’s a pretty name of admin-ajax.php).

    Thanks,
    Martin

Ok. I will try to investigate what happens

    Lana 5 years ago

Okay. In case it serves someone. I found it too coincidental that the users who couldn’t play the videos live in Austria and Denmark. I discovered that our WEB hosting server blocked certain accesses from non-Spanish speaking countries, I unblocked them and everything works !!!!!
