Hi!,
The FVPlayer video is freezing on this page.
https://www.origamispiritmembership.com/origamigos-a-membership-for-paperfolders-waitlist/
Video is stored on AWS and had been working fine. I’m not sure exactly when the issue began.
Thanks.

I remember I’ve had this issue before. I do have the Amazon S3 Ajax Pro Box checked in FVplayer > Settings > hosting tab.
Hello John,
sorry for the late reply.
I fail to see any freezing on the video during regular playback. The previous time you had this issue, you explained that one needs to pause the video and wait 15 minutes before trying to play it again to experience the issue. Is it the case this time as well?
Is only this video affected or have you tested other videos from the same source as well?
Thanks,
MariaHi Maria,
Thank you for getting back to me.
Yes, the video on this page is playing now.
This was the only page where the video was not playing properly, that I know of.
Yesterday I went to the AWS S3 account and played the clip there without trouble. I then checked that the URL copied to FV Player was the correct one, which it is.
I can’t explain it. There must be a ghost in the machine. :)
I’ll get back in touch if I have any more trouble.
Regards,
John
Hello John,
looking at the AWS status page I do not see any issue reported for S3 yesterday: https://status.aws.amazon.com/
Did the issue occur on iPhone?
Would the video literally just freeze, or did you get some error message after playing it for a while?
Thanks,
MartinHi Martin,
When I clicked the play button, the video would play for 2-3 seconds and then freeze. If I advanced the video manually, it still would not play. If the page was refreshed it still would not play. I checked the video in AWS and it played fine, within AWS.
This behavior continued for three days, until yesterday and it now plays. I can’t explain it.
You can link to the page with the video here.
Thank you for getting back to me.
Regards,
John
Hi,
I spoke too soon. The videos on the entire site are freezing. The issue is intermittent. Sometimes they play, but when the page is refreshed they don’t. Sometimes they don’t play at all but freeze immediately. Here is some additional information
• Freezing is occurring on Safari and Chrome, desktop, and mobile.
• Sample page with a freezing video: https://bit.ly/3pavAeM
• Here’s the same video on the S3 account: https://bit.ly/2X37XMD
• There are no caching plugins on the website.
• My host––WP-Engine––replicated the issue and observed the freeze after reloading the page. The issue persisted even when excluding the page from their cache system. They saw no errors generated on the page itself, and no errors generated in the apache logs when the freeze happened. They think it is a video buffering issue.Thank you
JohnHello John,
it appears that the issue occurs as the video file has the public access without S3 token enabled.
But then FV Player Pro tries to load it again with the S3 token added to the URL and it freezes.
Did you make that video publicly available on that https://or…os.s3.amazonaws.com/sales_page_videos/OR….21.mp4 URL on purpose?
Is the goal to protect all of the videos in that or…os S3 bucket?
Please let us know.
Thanks,
MartinHi Martin,
Thank you for helping me sort this out.
“it appears that the issue occurs as the video file has the public access without S3 token enabled.”
Did you make that video publicly available on that https://or…os.s3.amazonaws.com/sales_page_videos/OR….21.mp4 URL on purpose? This seems to be my lack of understanding of how to configure the Amazon settings and the S3 token. The goal is to protect the videos, but I thought they had to be made public to be viewable on the site. What do I need to do here? Do I need to enable the S3 token and how/where do I do that? On the S3 account? In FV Player settings?Does the public access setting on the videos need to be changed, and to what access level should they be set?I there anything else you suggest I do?
Thank you again,
JohnHello John,
changing your bucket permissions will make your files private. Just make sure that all your video files will have the tokens then. Videos without the token won’t play when bucket and its contents are private.
Go to your bucket -> Permissions -> Block public access (bucket settings). Click edit and turn on “Block all public access”. You can see the screen in question in step 3 of this section of our S3 guide: https://foliovision.com/player/video-hosting/secure-amazon-s3-guide#upload
Thanks,
MariaWith respect to tokens, I’m looking at this page in the FVP knowledge base. https://bit.ly/38T9B5I
I am not using Streamloader, FV Player Coconut, or Cloudfront.
My workflow has been to upload videos directly to the appropriate S3 account bucket, then copy the video URL into FVPlayer when I add a video.
Thanks!
John
Hello John,
the URL token is just another word for the URL signature which you have configured in the S3 settings of Settings -> FV Player Pro -> Hosting.
Are you still running into the issue after setting the S3 bucket permissions? It seems your video is still accessible without the URL signature/tokens – it plays using that https://bit.ly/2X37XMD link.
Thanks,
MartinHi Martin:
I just checked the “block all public access” in the top-level S3 bucket that holds all our videos. I think that did the trick. The videos that were freezing are now playing. Here is a screenshot of where clicked that permission checkbox.

Is this what you wanted me to do?
Thank you,
John
