Lightboxed video not showing in a page

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › Lightboxed video not showing in a page

  • Donna 5 years, 9 months ago

    Hello!

    After upgrading FV player from 7.3.19.727 to 7.4.0.727 our lightboxed videos are not showing up anymore. This is the shortcode we use with
    the videos: [fvplayer src="file.mp4" speed="no" qsel="true" splash="image.jpg" caption="Caption" lightbox="true;1000;561"]

    We tried the shortcode without lightbox option, and the video shows up and plays fine then. We have tried modifying the shortcode by adding additional semicolon as the last character: “lightbox=”true;1000;561;” and also adding additional lightbox entry: ‘ “lightbox=”true;” lightbox=”true;1000;561″ ‘. With or without the last semicolon, it does not work.

    Also we have tried enabling “Enable video lightbox” option in the post interface options, we understand this probably only affects the shortcode editor, but just to make sure.
    In addition, we have tried enabling the “Remove fancyBox” option in the integrations/compatibility settings, but this had no effect either.

    In addition to this problem, when we go to the FV Player Pro settings page, and click “check template” it says:

    It appears there are no Flowplayer scripts on your site, your videos might not be playing, please check. Check your template's header.php file if it contains wp_head() function call and footer.php should contain wp_footer()!
    It appears there are no jQuery library on your site, your videos might not be playing, please check.

    However, https://site/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.12.4 and https://site/wp-content/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/flowplayer/fv-flowplayer.min.js?ver=7.3.19.727 (or 7.4.0.727) are accessible.

    What might be the issue here?

    Here is our FV player/WP version information:
    FV Player version: 7.4.0.727
    FV Player core version: 7.2.7.1
    FV Player license: Valid (next check 2019-08-01 17:04:23 GMT)

    FV Player Pro version: 7.3.19.727
    FV Player Pro license: Valid (next check 2019-08-01 17:04:23 GMT)

    WordPress Version: 4.9.10
    Permalink Structure: /%postname%/
    Active Theme: Avada 5.9.1

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Donna,

    I’m really sorry to hear that. I’ve forwarded this forums thread to our Senior programmer Martin since it is Jscript related. He will get in touch with you in the close future.

    Are you using any type of SEO or page optimalization plugin? These plugins tends to hide the version numbers on paths to those jscript and other similar files which can cause these problems. So, in the case you’re using any plugin that could do this, please try deactivating it.

    Thanks for being part of the Foliovision,

    Juraj

    Hello Donna,

    I was not able to reproduce the issue.

    I see you are back to 7.3.19.727. I also see you are not removing your query string versions and you are not using a CDN.

    When you have a bit of time, please try with 7.4.0.727 again and if it still won’t work try to insert a new player using the FV Player button above the editor or on the wp-admin -> FV Player screen and see if it works that way. There is a small chance that the new plugin version doesn’t like something about your shortcode – although when I copied what you send it worked right away.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thank you for the replies! :)

    About the issue with scripts not been found when clicking “check template”, it seems this was caused by the “Site offline mode” plugin we are using in our test installation.
    I disabled the offline mode, and “check template” is able to find the scripts. I guess the offline mode plugin was interfering with the way “check template” checks the scripts availability.
    However, the issue with lightboxed videos not showing in the page still remains.

    Also we did not revert back to 7.3.19.727. At the time there was only update for FV Player, NOT FV Player Pro. The lightbox issue came immediately after updating to FV Player 7.4.0.727. Today we noticed there is an update to FV Player Pro also, so we updated that to 7.4.0.727 too. So the versions are now:
    FV Player version: 7.4.0.727
    FV Player core version: 7.2.7.1
    FV Player Pro version: 7.4.0.727

    We have a Yoast SEO plugin installed, but it is not removing the version strings from scripts. Just to test this however, we disabled the SEO plugin, but the video lightbox was still not showing.

    We also tried adding the shortcode by using the “fv player” button, but the result is the same. If the “lightbox popup” option is checked, the video will not show.

    We have PHP error logging turned on, but there have been no errors generated in the log file during the testing. Although we do get errors like the following from time to time:

    [PHP Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in /path/to/wp-content/plugins/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/includes/aws/GuzzleHttp/Handler/CurlFactory.php on line 67

    Today this has been tested with Brave beta (0.67.107), Firefox (68.0) and Chromium (74.0.3729.169) browsers.

    In Brave’s developer tools console, with verbose messages included, i saw these messages:

    fv-flowplayer.min.js?ver=7.4.0.727:9 [Violation] Added non-passive event listener to a scroll-blocking 'touchstart' event. Consider marking event handler as 'passive' to make the page more responsive. See https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5745543795965952
    fv-flowplayer.min.js?ver=7.4.0.727:475 [Violation] 'setInterval' handler took 89ms

    Not sure if these messages are related to this in any way.

    What could we try next?
    Would it be helpful for you to get the “System info” from Fv player’s settings? And if so, is there a way to get this information to you privately?

    Thank you very much for all your efforts :)

    Hello Donna,

    perhaps there is some other plugin which is causing the issue. Since we did make some updates to the plugin code we can have a look, just send a link to your publicly accessible test page where we can see the issue.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Donna,

    I can see the issue, while the HTML markup for the lightboxed FV Player should be like this:

    <div data-fancybox='gallery' data-options='...' id="..." href="..." class="flowplayer lightbox-starter ...">
    	<div class="fp-ratio" style="padding-top: 56.25%"></div>
    	<img class="fp-splash" alt="video" src="https://cdn.foliovision.com/images/2014/07/Swan-Lake-Reloaded.png" /></noscript>
    	<div class="fp-ui"><noscript>Please enable JavaScript</noscript><div class="fp-preload"><b></b><b></b><b></b><b></b></div></div>
    </div>

    <div id="..." class="fv_player_lightbox_hidden" style="display: none">
    ...
    </div>

    On your website I can only see:

    <div data-fancybox='gallery' data-options='...' id="..." title='...' href="..." class="flowplayer lightbox-starter ...">
    </div>

    <div id="..." class="fv_player_lightbox_hidden" style="display: none">
    ...
    </div>

    So there must be some plugin or a theme conflict. Could you please try to preview your website with the default WordPress theme (Twenty Nineteen or so) and see if it works that way?

    Perhaps there is something that doesn’t like that IMG tag which we started to use for the splash screen since FV Player 7.4.0.727.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello!

    As per your suggestion, we have tried switching the theme to “Twenty Seventeen”, but the lightboxed video was still not showing up.

    We then switched back to Avada theme and deactivated all the plugins except for FV player/FV player pro, but there was no change to lightbox behavior.

    There was also an update to Avada, so we updated it to 6.0 (along with Fusion builder/Fusion core plugins that come with it), but still the lightbox refused to show up.

    Is there anything else we might try?

    Thank you! :)

    Hello Donna,

    thank you for following the troubleshooting steps.

    Are you running into the same issue with just FV Player active – no FV Player Pro.

    Please also post the Settings -> FV Player -> Tools -> System Info, we won’t publish it.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello again Martin :)

    We deactivated FV Player Pro, but the issue still remains. We also tried deactivating all the plugins again, except for FV Player (FV Player Pro was also deactivated), but with no luck.

    Below is the System info: (redacted)

    Thank you!

    Hello Donna,

    we are running out of options, could you please reinstall FV Player from this link? https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/86776100-lightbox-debug.zip To do that you will have to first deactivate and delete the current FV Player plugin you are using. WordPress will warn you that you might loose settings and data, but it’s not the case with our plugin, no settings now videos will be lost. Or you can just replace the plugin files via FTP.

    That way we can append ?fvp_lightbox_debug to the URL of your page with FV Player with lightbox and see if the HTML is set properly by our plugin to be able to determine if some other plugin is then altering it.

    If you are running out of time we are also happy to get this solved for you right on your website, just order our Pro support: https://foliovision.com/pro-support

    Hello Donna,

    I think I got it, please reinstall from https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/master.zip and I would be surprised if that’s not it.

    The issue appeared as you use an empty value for the player height in plugin settings. Some people asked us to allow even a value of 100% there to make sure the player is always showing at full page/content column width.

    I think we should perhaps remove that setting, make the player 100% wide at all times (with override available for individual players) and concentrate more on the video aspect ratio.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

    As per your latest reply, we reinstalled FV player using https://github.com/foliovision/fv-wordpress-flowplayer/archive/master.zip.

    However, the lightbox did not start working just after reinstalling. But after we added a pixel value of “600” for the player height in plugin settings, the lightbox started to show up.
    If we replaced the pixel value with “100%” the lightboxed video disappeared again. So it appears to only work with pixel value.

    Thank you very much for all your efforts on this!

    Martin 6 years ago

    Hello Donna,

    I tried different scenarios, but I was not able to reproduce the issue – no matter is the height was empty or if it was 100%.

    We plan to get rid of the video height setting and instead detect video aspect ratio and use that.

    Thanks,
    Martin
