IE 11 ioad indicator weirdness

[Solved]

Foliovision › Forums › FV Player › Troubleshooting › IE 11 ioad indicator weirdness

  • Timon S. 5 years, 7 months ago

    Hi,

FV WordPress Flowplayer already works perfectly on our site for 7 out of 8 browsers that I’m testing (Windows and Mac).

I have a weird problem remaining with just and only the Internet Explorer.

I made a screenshot showing the effect and also the exact version of internet explorer:

    Version: IE 11.0.9600.17041 on Windows 7 , Update Version 11.0.7. KB2929437

    Explaining the screenshot:
I put a red frame around a distortion of the “play now” button that is part of my splash screen. This distortion moves from the left to the right, just like the three dots of the load indicator. This happens directly after loading the page, before anything is clicked!

This changing distortion keeps going also when the video is started and also when it is paused. In the second screenshot you can see the distortion (one of the ways it can look) when the video is paused:

    The live version is here:

Just to be sure, I’m also sending the video data by clicking “Admin: Video OK”, but as this happens before the video is even played, I think the problem is elsewhere!?

    Thank you!!

    Timon

    Hello Timon,

this might be related to HW acceleration of either video or the CSS effect. I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue on two computers.

    1) Could you please check if it plays in HTML5 or Flash?

    2) Do you get the same issue on http://foliovision.com?

    3) Could you please try to disable the hardware acceleration as shown here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7a2OLbRVwQ

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Regarding 1) It plays as HTML5

Regarding 2) Yes, the same issue appears on http://foliovision.com , too! See the screenshot:

Regarding 3) The problem disappears when I disable the hardware acceleration.

So if hardware acceleration is causing the problem:

    How can this be fixed?

    Cheers,

    Timon

    Hello Timon,

this is not easy to figure out. It might be even depending on your hardware.

We will put together a demo where the player will use different CSS for the loading indicator and see if that helps.

Also, are you able to play/pause/seek in the video (or in the buffered part) freely? Please check this on your test video.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

    > this is not easy to figure out. It might be even depending on your hardware.

O.K., I’ll help in any possible way. For example: Could it help you if I set up remote access to this machine for you? RDP, TeamViewer etc? Maybe it won’t help either, because remote access will bypass the GPU rendering?

    > We will put together a demo where the player will use different CSS for the loading indicator and see if that helps.

Sounds great, I’ll check all of those as soon as I get them. Also feel free to use my e-mail from this forum profile in case it can’t be posted online.

    > Also, are you able to play/pause/seek in the video (or in the buffered part) freely? Please check this on your test video.

I checked this on http://foliovision.com/ and yes, I can play, pause, seek and it works just perfectly (with the exception of the load indicator distortion being present all the time).

BTW: In the video with the fireshow (http://foliovision.com/) this distortion may be overlooked easily, because there is so much action and change all the time. In the business video that I’m working on there’s not so much wild action, it’s basically me talking into the camera- and then the distortion hits either the play button (before the video is played) oder my face while I’m talking. So in this case the distortion is very prominent.

Thank you for working on this difficult case!!
I’m very much looking forward to publishing the whole new site, where the video has a very prominent place on the 1st page!

    Cheers,

    Timon

    Hello Timon,

please check the test page here: http://foliovision.com/html/fv-fp-ie11.html

Does the display error still occur in your IE11?

This is tricky, we were already adjusting this in the past as there were rendering issues on iPad.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thank you!
I’ll be back at the office on Friday and will check the test page as soon as I get there.
    Cheers

    Hi Martin,

I got back early, immediately checked the test page and: Yeah! Big improvement!

On http://foliovision.com/html/fv-fp-ie11.html this is what happens:
    1. After (re)loading the page, the load indicator weirdness is visible.
    2. After starting the video, the load indicator weirdness is gone, yeah!
    3. After pausing the video, the load indicator weirdness is still gone, yeah!

On http://foliovision.com/ the load indicator weirdness is still visible in all three cases.

This is a great step forward!

    Cheers

    Hi Martin,

seeing above that 2 out of 3 parts of this are solved: Do you plan to include your bugfixes that improved this issue on http://foliovision.com/html/fv-fp-ie11.html in the next patch release of the plugin?

I’m asking because even this partial fix would be very valuable for me:

With your latest fixes my new site is almost ready to go live, because then only the splash screen has the anomaly: I think I could temporarily work around that by photoshopping the splash screen so that the anomaly happens on an area of uniform color and is less visible, at least for the normal size of the video on desktop computers …

    Thank you!

    Hello Timon,

I’m leaving for a vacation for the rest of the week, but we will add this in one of the next releases.

I would say this is an IE specific display glitch which is only occurring on a few specific hardware configurations.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hello Martin,

looks like these fixes didn’t make it into the just released version 2.2.7 ?

Which version are they going to be in?

    Hello Timon,

hopefully we can release this fix in version 2.2.8 or 2.2.9 next week.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
I have installed and tested 2.2.9 on one of my sites. Sadly, this bug still appears.

Looks like your working fixes didn’t make it into 2.2.9?

Which version will they be in?

    Cheers,

    Timon

    Hello Timon,

sorry about the delay on this one. We can put it up in next release. There was supposed to be one this week, but it’s delayed because of new features.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,

    now it works perfectly. Yeahh!

It works great on splash screen, play, pause and last frame.
